After sitting since the early 70's (or maybe longer). I made a few baby steps in getting it road worthy again. As they say, its has to get worse before it gets better. well its gonna look worse for awhile.

Started removing the sheetmetal today so I could get at the front suspension and its removal also. I plan to take the frame all the way down so I can clean and paint it before going back together.

Thanks Bob, yes, its going to alot of work, but its not my first frame up job so I have a feel for the amount of work (the wood part will be the new learning experience thou the wife and I have restored a number of 'Arts and Crafts' Mission style pieces of furniture so we have some concept of what needs to be done to strip, bleech and recondition the wood)

Question about the frame

Is there supposed to be only one cross brace (diagional near the steering box or two (one on each side). In the pic you can see I only have one

Mine is like that too. I believe that diagonal brace was to reduce the frame rail flexing caused by the side to side movement of the drag link. Prior to '48 the direction of travel wasn't side to side, but front to rear. Supposedly one of the advertising pitches for the pilot house was the reduced turning radius created by the side to side steering. Nice looking, and unique project. Mike
