This will keep the oil in the filter and reduce dry bearings on startup, also make filter changes cleaner. Slant sixes have the same setup (vertical filter). They don't leak much oil when you change them, as long as the anti drain back valve is intact. Fram filters are rather poor in this regard. Quote
