do you mean the finned edmunds...? i tried real hard to get it, but

they raised the bar too high for my budget.:mad:

what do those heads do but look nice, anyway? higher compression, less heat, what else? does anyone know and has numbers?

I LOVE the Fenton head you sold to me. :D

My car is like a completely different machine now it's fitted with the speed equipment.

Maybe you regret selling it, but I hope you feel better when you know that my car is used regularly so the head is not just another piece of eye candy on a trailer queen.

robin...ha!ha! sorry i didnt get 800 bucks, WOW!!!! but more than happy that you have it on your convert, i have one on mine too. glad you like it.

capt fred....mostly look nice! with other external compenents like dual this and that, the combination provides a snappy 6cyl motor. it really dresses up the motor 'look'.... maybe the coil and dist addition would make it even better, dont have that stuff. i am satisfied where i am.

the comp is upped to around 7.5, and if shaved maybe more.

you can also get that compression by putting a 1940-1 head on a p-15 up motor, so it is reported.....due to comb.chamber configuration for the earlier motors.

as robin says..when put together right..it sure is a snappy motor at all speeds.! stock carter carbs, offy intake and duals..

ok, sounds interesting!

mine is a 40 anyway, so there must be something inside that didn't come out so far:) i didn't have a serious ride yet, only on the garage yard where i work on the car, but it wasn't developing any power so far. gotta check the compression first, then rebuild the carb.

when i have a license and next winter is coming in, i want to add the speed, but i guess i keep the original egine as is and buy another one and get it redone

(look at "largest flathead to fit"-thread...). there's a quarter-mile race for those old ladies here once a year, let's see where we are in, say, 2012;)

it's fun having one of these, even just looking at it...

Earl Edgerton makes a new finned aluminum head for both the 23" and 25" blocks. I'm running one on my '50 230. On the 230 it has 9:1 compression, and if I remember right, about 8.5:1 on the 218.

I have about 16,000 miles on my engine with this head so far. I used ARP head studs, nuts, and washers to hold it down.

These heads are new, and ready to bolt on. They cost about $650. By the time you shell out the e-bay price for a vintage head, and have it milled, have the stripped plug threads fix, etc, you are in to the vintage head for quite a price. And with the vintage head, you wont know till you get it if it has already been milled too much...
