218 Automatic Transmission Options...Adapters??

This info is need for a friend of mine. I know this has probably been covered a bunch of times but I was unable to find the info I needed with the search button.

He has a '54 Plymouth that he would like to put an automatic behind. If possible he would like to put an auto with OD. He is on a budget like the rest of us so a direct bolt in would be great.

What auto trans will bolt right up?

What OD trans will bolt up with adapters?

I'm not up on my automatics but I feel this would be pretty good info for others.

Any bit of help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

We have an adapter for the Mopar 904 and A-500 Torqueflite. Although the adapter is a 'bolt-in' operation, keep in mind all of the additional changes that are required around the installation. Send a note or call if you have questions. 888-Hemi-Parts.

The adapter I have been trying to reproduce is a Chrysler item that mates a 727 or its grandchildren to our flathead six engines. I've spent two years working with a local machinist and finally gave up on the project last weekend. The potential market is small, the cost of production is high, and there are two perfectly good adapters on the market already. A big disappointment for me as it is an original mopar item, but not within my ability at this time.
