hey guys. i have solved a problem on my 58 plymouths 230 flattie and another one arises. it has been completely rebuilt in summer of 2008. i have only driven it about 20 miles all together. i do let her idle nearly everyday. now that i have solved the brake issue the car goes in both directions without stalling. but everytime i let the engine run a little while, ill turn off the engine and ill get one loud pop. its coming from the exhaust pipe. does this sound like an exhaust leak or timing? im not good at troubleshooting.

You are running rich and you have an exhaust leak near the manifold. The exhaust leak allows fresh air to enter the exhaust system and ignite the unburned fuel.

You should hear my Briggs and Stratton lawn mower pop about 10 seconds after I shut it off. Scares the hell out of my wife:D

Who knows where that set screw is set right now. The best way to do it is to start from scratch. Turn the screw all the way in, then immediately turn it about 1 1/2 turns out. Then start the car up, let it warm to operating temperature and finish adjusting the mixture. Don't forget, you may have to also slow down or speed up the accelerator adjustment too. Again, start at the bottom then turn 1 1/2 turns out prior to starting the engine.
