blueskies Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Sounds like a good topic of discussion on this site, eh? Lets get some more old Mopars on the Salt! I've been taunting my ARCH RACE RIVAL with this for a couple of years now... ...... Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Unfortunately, there is no flathead specific inline catagory. You'd have to run in 'XO' which includes 'overhead valve and flathead inline as well as flathead V8 (except Ford and Mercury) and flathead v-12, 1959 or earlier design, up to 325 CI'.So, you'd have to run your Mopar flathead against the OHV GM motors which are STRONG performers. From what I understand (and I may be mistaken), if there are at least three competitors looking to create specific class (say, flathead inline sixes), they can petition the SCTA for a new class. Sounds like a good topic of discussion on this site, eh? Lets get some more old Mopars on the Salt! All classes and catagories can be found on the SCTA site at www.scta-bni.org Have a great day, and thanks for the support! Thanks for the info. Yes it would be hard to run against a OHV GM. That XO class seems to be 150+ mph, Thats pretty darn quick. What sort of speed is Earl Edgerton doing with his flat 6?. Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 I was lucky enough to grow up in Indianapolis [/b] Where and when did you grow up in Naptown? I did a bit of growing up there myself in the early 50's. East side, Bancroft Street. I have been to many Indy 500 races and also many National's drag races in Claremont in the late 60's and the 70's. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Only time I have ever been to Bonneville was 1969. I trailered my BSA 3 cylinder motorcycle there for a run. The record at the time was around 125 MPH. First run down the salt was a 114 MPH attempt but I also cracked the transmission case on that run and no parts were available. While working in the pits an older guy with a strange accent walks up and started asking questions. Initial reaction was who is this old codger. We soon realized he was Burt Monro. We followed him over to his streamliner and he gave us the touchy feely showing. Anthony Hopkins did an excellent job of capturing his accent and demenor in the movie THE WORLDS FASTEST INDIAN. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Impressive engine stats. Did you cross drill the crankshaft for additional oiling at the RPM's you are now turning? Interesting that you are running shiverlay pistons and Pontiac valves. I am running shiverlay valves in my Desoto long block flathead. I also sent my camshaft to Earl for a new profile. Have you flow tested the manifolds? Why did you select the Holly two barrel carburetor? Can you run multiple carburetors in this class? Is there a lot of differences in the Dodge short production run 4 cylinder engines and the Plymouth 4 cylinder engines? Quote
