to get a certain result only to find the factory gave you the easy way from day one, if you'd seen it?

needed to remove the door lock cylinders from the 52 and set about pulling the door panels off, popping the retainers back, and slipping them out only to find neat little slots on the door right where they'd need to be to use a screwdriver to move those same little retainers...... in the timeless words of Homer: "D'oh!"

they'd never been removed during several attempts at painting and needed cleaning as well as allowing me to properly sand and prime that area.

i also found that the factory must have realized that those oilcloth pieces in the doors would eventually need to be removed and reinstalled, so there are prepunched holes around the edge to move the retainers to when you put them back on. in the immortal words of Guinness: "Brilliant!"

You'll be glad you did those little clean and oil things like door locks and latches and window mechanisms. Makes it all more user friendly later.

My 53 has that same setup, sure makes it simple to take out the lock mechanism.

The only glitch comes when you want to reinstall the lock cylinders. The factory recommends you poke a long needle through the door panel and rest it in the depression at the end of the lock cylinder shaft to guide it back in.

my thougths exactly, I would scratch all the extra work as work needed when you put it back together! So in theory you are ahead of schedule!:D
