Vazlov1949 Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 I have searched the tech archives but can't find anything on u-joint replacement involving the older style "clevelend" tab style u-joints. Is it pretty straight forward or is there a specific procedure that insures proper removal and installation? I have a couple nos joints ready to go in but I'm waiting to hear from someone who has done it and knows of any possible glitches I may encounter. Also any advice on being able to grease that hard to reach little zerk fitting again after installation? And how hard is it to remove the rear yoke off the differential if I need to update to the u-bolt style of u-joint? thanks everybody. Quote
Craig Rutter Posted July 18, 2017 Report Posted July 18, 2017 I cannot see any answers to your question ? and funny enough i am asking the same question today for the same truck as yours! so im hoping you found out all the tricks of the trade as they say , and have the knowledge to help a friend embark for armed. . with regards Craig Quote
RodFru2u Posted July 19, 2017 Report Posted July 19, 2017 The " Cleveland Style " U joints are straight forward, bend down locking tabs then use 7/16 box wrench to remove. Mark the relationship of driveshaft to rear end and transmission, otherwise you might get vibrations @. High Speeds. On my truck there was enough play / movement to slide the shaft clear enough to remove . A VERY easy job that can be done in one afternoon with all the parts there I ordered mine from Roberts Motors last year $ 150.00 + Shipping ordered on Monday , delivered by Wednesday afternoon,Back on the road Wednesday night 1 Quote
