  1. Sad to make this post, but with a baby on the way and a job move, I know I'm not going to have the time/space/expertise to properly restore this car. I'm the third owner and it originally was bought in the los angeles area, the original owners daughters drove it for a while until it was passed to them and then parked the car in the 70s on their fathers property. It sat there until I bought it in 2011 and has been trucked around the United States ever since while I kept telling myself "I'll have time to fix it up later". I know I wont, so I sadly have to pass this car to someone else to be the one to enjoy it. If you're on the site you already know how rare these are so I'd love to see someone take over fixing it up. You'll get several boxes of extra parts for the interior of the car, but it will need a full restoration. I can spin the radiator fan blade manually but I've never tried to start the car as I wanted to have the engine rebuilt anyways.
  2. Hey guys, So I decided to take off my tires today to look at the brakes, and didn't realize that the studs are reversed on the driver's side of the car. We managed to punch them out, and went to get replacements, but the replacements don't fit, and all the websites come up with the same studs that don't fit when I search by make/model. Used the number from the parts book and they gave me the same ones. Wondering what type they might be and where i could get some?
  3. I have a 1940 Dodge D14, and I was wondering what the best wiring harness is to replace the original? Mine is corroded and needs replacement.
  4. Good morning all, this is going to be my restoration album for any and all work I do to my 1940 Dodge D14 De-luxe (or deluxe, it varies based on what old brochure you're looking at). I'm really thinking about naming the car Mary Jane after my late grandma, who never wanted anything more than to ride in it before she passed. I'll always regret that I couldn't do that for her but I'll dedicate my work to her memory instead. Just so everyone knows, this will be the first attempt at something of this scale and complexity in my entire life so I'm sure I'll be asking for a lot of help on it. But if you want to stay and read through goof ups or are thinking about the same thing yourself and want some ideas, I'll say my purpose in posting is complete. One thing I really want to do is to break this down as intelligently as possible so here's what I'm thinking: 1. Do work in zones. Electrical, fuel delivery, transmission, engine, oil system, brakes and wheels, interior,body, paint. Fully completing one and then moving on to the next 2. Then break down each zone into its own checkpoints. E.g for electrical, wiring the brake lights, converting to 12v (if I do), etc 3. Keeping everything organized. If you have any tips like special bins for parts or anything feel free to throw those at me. This weekend I'll post pictures to show where I'm starting from and what my garage looks like and then we'll let the fun begin.
  5. I'm about to get started on restoring my D14 and would like to sandblast the frame and paint it as it's been probably 70 years it's been exposed to the elements. But I have no lift to separate the body from the frame and don't want to warp the body by doing it incorrectly. So is there a way to do it without a 2 or 4 post lift, and how can I avoid warping the body once it is lifted off? edit** I should note that the floorboards have been rusted through completely as well as in the trunk. I so I wouldn't count on too much structural support from the floor.
  6. Every picture I have seen of a D14 Dodge the front bumper does not have these two upper portions. Was the a bumper from another model car, aftermarket addition, or a homebrew setup from a guy pretty good with metal working? http://i.imgur.com/BVgR1.jpg (Hi Res)
