When I added power steering to my 47 DeSoto, I added a pulley to the crankshaft end, and had to move the radiator forward and wallow out the crossmember. I ran across a diagram of a 42 DeSoto with air conditioning. It looks like they added the extra pulley to the water pump, avoiding the crankshaft end and the crossmember. They mounted the compressor on the passenger side of the engine. Hmmmmm... I wish I had thought of that. (Might still have to do something so that the fan would clear the new pulley and belt.) (That's the U.S passenger side, per Andy Dodge's recent clarifications.)

I've recently acquired a 1950 P-20 project car, and since it needs a complete re-wire anyway, I'm considering switching over to a 12 volt harness and adding air conditioning. I've always left my other old cars 6 volt and never had trouble, BUT, it sure would be nice to have A/C here in Southern California. Has anyone else added a "Vintage Air" (or similar) unit to their old Mopar? If so, I'd love to hear how the swap was made from the old heater system to the new.

My neighbor who works for the Railroad as a refrigeration technicion was cleaning out his garage today. He called me and asked if I wanted a vacuum pump. Of course I said yes so he brought it over. What I got is a Robinair Model 15108-A Serial 761 What I did not get was a manual. I contacted the manufacture earlier today and sent them a note to see if they may have a manual. I have not yet heard back from them. My question is does anyone here have such manual? I did plug the pump in and ran it for half a second. It appears to be low on oil and I dont want to run it any longer until I can better check it out. Thanks in advance.
