  1. Thanks, Ed, Now I just have to take delivery of it, clean it up, paint it and see what size wheel fits it. Then get the spare tire made, and then it's off to the bumpers!
  2. Does this spare carrier look correct for my '42 WC? It looks to be the correct basic shape and configuration... Its the closest one I have found so far. How does the carrier mount? The front end of the carrier (bolt end above) to the passenger side and then the rear end of the carrier (right end above) to the rear driver side of the vehicle? Thanks,
  3. The grill trim on my '42 has no red paint and I was thinking of adding it. Does anyone have the correct color code for this paint? And is the paint as shown in the photos below correct? Are there better photos which accurately show the correct location of the paint? Thanks!
  4. Just double checking - is the carrier below incorrect for 1942 then? Was it later?
  5. Now for the speedometer cable, it is proper for it to go through the firewall at the air cleaner height cab entry point? The reason I ask is that there is an entry point much lower, where the firewall meets the floorpan on the passenger side, that I would think might be easier and more direct for the speedometer cable. Thanks!
  6. Here is a closeup of my speedometer. Is it correct for my '42 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup? Thanks!
  7. I guess this is more like the correct front bumper, the bumper above being bent and curved too much....
  8. Would this be the correct front bumper for my '42?
  9. This must be what we're talking about. What an easy thing to make. Does anyone have an original one which they could a picture of with a yard stick and then post the photo? Also exactly where do the two support bolts mount to the truck? Thanks! .
  10. Yeah I'll keep the front then and find "something" for the back.
  11. OK so the front bumper is slightly "V"d and the rear is fairly straight. What Ford application would you say is closest? Or are there any current manufacturers of classic bumpers who may have or could make a bumper set? Thanks!
  12. Well, I knew the wheels and tinted glass was not original and have been considering painting the "DODGE" on the tail gate but the front bumper is wrong? The guy I bought it from said he couldn't find a rear bumper so that's why he put a filler panel on. But no mention of putting the wrong bumper on the front. I did get the original wheels with the truck. I have been looking for a correct rear bumper and I'll now include a front bumper with that search. Besides a nice chrome front and rear bumper would look pretty sharp against the black. I officially retract what I said about the truck being 100% original, What I meant is the drive train is 100% original. But there are a lot more components than just that. Still I thought it pretty special to have a numbers matching 73 year old truck.
  13. So just for my information, because I really don't have a clue, when you say "I see several changes (cosmetic mostly)" could you please let me know what they are? Besides the wheels and tinted glass... Thanks!
  14. Where was the spare tire on a 1942 "Job Rated" 1/2 ton Pickup stowed and how was it attached? Thanks!
  15. I need to find a rear bumper and brackets for my '42 Dodge and I was wondering if the front and rear bumpers are identical or different? Thanks,
  16. I have a '42 "Job Ready" pickup with the original flathead 218 and have been trying to figure out the timing. "The Book" says to adjust the timing to TDC but I cannot find it documented anywhere if that is with the vacuum advance connected or disconnected. Recommendations? Thanks!

Here is what have planned: 1) Add a NOS Vacuum Advance to the matching number type distributor I recently swapped in. 2) Make sure the matching number carburetor I just swapped in is working properly. 3) Adjust the valves and get the engine running smoother. 4) Find and add a rear bumper with mounts. 5) Put the original wheels with white wall tires on. That's all I can think of now...
  18. No screw was supplied in the rebuild kit but I have a parts carburetor. If one removes the idle mixture screw with a full floatbowl, should fuel come out or not?
  19. I got my DTC1 carburetor all rebuilt and stuck on the manifold to find out that the idle mixture screw does not work. The engine will run on partial choke but not on open choke. Must have blockage or some major vacuum leak somewhere. Questions: 1) Does the Idle Mixture Screw regulate fuel or air? 2) Where is the problem most likely to be? Thanks!
  20. As mentioned in another thread, when bought my 1942 Dodge 1/2 ton "Job Rated" pickup, the odometer wasn't working. But lately as I drove to a show, I had a sound like a chicken fight under the dash and then the disc containng the needle fell off. Now I have no speedometer or odometer. Which brings me to my question: Would it be cheaper to repair or replace a speedometer in such condition? If someone has one laying around and would cut me a good deal, that would be GREAT! Otherwise, does anyone know of one being available? And barring that, does anyone know who fixes them at a reasonable cost? Mine is pictured below but I have heard through the grapevine that a '42 speedometer supposedly have a long needle and not a disc with a short needle. Beats me, anyone know for sure? Thanks!
