Trying to get everything finished before I'm completely grey (or bald lol)
I do a lot of the work with my wife by my side with our daughter (a year and a half old). Usually I have no problem explaining what I'm doing, but now I'm staying silent as the only things wanting to come out are cuss words with this water distribution tube.
I'm at the point that I'm just laughing like Cesar Romero.
I've looked up the old threads and have tried shoving flat head screw drivers, pulling with a steering wheel type puller, and attaching a hook and hitting the pipe with a happier to jolt it out. Nothing is working. It's been sitting for 2 days with PB blaster sprayed on it twice a day. Noting and now I've ripped the first hole.
Is there anything that will work better than PB blaster sprayed on and around the tube?
It's out and rebuilt!!!
Thank you everyone for all your help. I ended up just taking the floor out. When I pulled the carpet everything looked clean and un-rusted and the bolts came out without a hitch.
Now I'm just learning the struggles with the "sword in the stone" .......water distribution tube
Well... Thank you both. I'm thinking I should of asked much earlier today instead of slowly putting myself in a straight jacket.
I will hopefully have time Thursday to try both methods and see what happens.
I did look first in the manual BUT it conveniently skips over how to remove it. Only says how to service it once it's out.
Please help me Obi Wan you're my only hope!
I tried today to replace my brake lines and rebuild my master cylinder. All was good until I got under the car to remove it. I can't for the life of me figure out how to disconnect the clutch pedal and brake pedal from the master.
There is a thick metal rod that I can't slide out enough to remove either.
Any help at all will be very very appreciated
I'm looking for a shop in West Palm or even Broward county to dip my fuel tank, pressure test it and coat it. Can anyone recommend one?
I dropped the tank the other night to empty the gas and it looks like the previous owner tried to Red-kote it but it's peeling off the bottom.
I know I can remove it myself with the chain/or bolts/ or gravel/ or broken glass technique but I would like a place to test it as well.
Thank you for that, will make it easier for me at least to be able to just go and buy any 10w30. I'll only be running the oil in my car for the first 100 miles. Being new to me I just want to do a flush and recheck everything. Didn't like the look of the oil the first time around.
You may be right, I just looked for a conventional oil that didn't say it had detergents.
Yes I'm using a purolator filter and I have the full flow system
I just replace the sweepers on one of the four doors last night. I ended up running to the store and buying box of a hundred stainless steel 4 x 5/8 metal screws. clamped the sweeper in place, drilled a hole, and put the flat head screw in. Took all of 10 mins for the door. They bury into the fuzzy so no worry about touching the glass. I did have to use a dremel and cut off the back side on the door garnish so it would go back on.
Tip: to do the sweeper on the outside side, Instead of taking out the glass, I took out the window stop and lowered the glass to the very bottom of the track and was able to do everything with the glass still in the door.
I completely agree with the AC and being hot in the Keys, the wife and I make road trips down to Key west a few times a year. I'm not too far north (West Palm Beach) and yes...its like an oven.
Mildew lol, yep pretty much. I'm not exactly sure what the humidity was last night but right now it's 72% to give an idea. I hope it's not the head gasket. I'll keep an eye on the exhaust once it's warmed up next time.
Some days you walk outside and it just hits you. Those days you could probably take aquatic plants and just leave them on your patio and they'd be fine.
I haven't torqued the head. I'm going to check the coolant levels Sunday when I do a partial flush. I noticed the water too, but the video was taken about 15-20 seconds into the idle and it was the first time it's been started in about a week.
Lmao I swear I'm not looking for trouble. I tend to be a little... Anal/OCD at times.
I'm just making sure when I do finally take that first cruise it doesn't end with a big clunk bang boom and sizzle.
If it sounds good to everyone then I'm happy.
I just uploaded Two videos on the end of the first page
Oh and I just want to say honestly Thank you so much to everyone for taking the time to help me out and respond. I really do appreciate it, it just makes the hobby/life style that much more enjoyable. It's a learning process and I'm only beginning.
Like only if you stood by the exhaust you would hear the smooth idle with no body shake or vibration and every other second or two you would hear a slightly deeper and very slightly louder pop that stands out from the rest of the idle noise
I haven't replaced the plugs, wires, or rebuilt the distributor yet, but noticed what sounds like an off fire every now and then or a slight misfire and was chalking that up the the old, wires, old gas, plugs and distrubitor. I hope it's not from the cam
The engine sounds great when we had it idleing. Didn't hear any weird or troubling noises.
The original owner passed away in the early 80's and supposedly it was "rebuilt" before it went into storage and only has 300 miles or so since the rebuild. I don't know how much is true or if it was a tune up vs a rebuild.
I do know once I swipe my finger into the particles I can't feel them between my fingers or even see them at that point. There was just a slight sheen to the oil and that's what made me try the magnet. Once wiped with the finger they almost have a graphite sheen to them and I wouldn't of thought they were metal if I didn't have the magnet
