Looks good! If you wouldn't have said otherwise I would have thought they were original.

Andy, no, it is just a diff although now you have me thinking about how sweet a transaxle would be... I'm loving the split bumper, so much so that I may have to steal........... I mean borrow, the idea. My car was missing its bumpers and I was going to do a roll pan but I really like that split look.

Til death do they part...... I not only introduced these two but well and truly married them. I still need to replace the 1x3 "shocks" with coilovers (or at least 2x4s lol) and source some proper bolts to replace my temporary all-threads but that'll be down the road a while. Looks like I'm losing my spare tire well and , if I wish to run these wheels and tires, widening the rear fenders but that's yet to be decided. On to the front end....

SW PA, near Bedford. I'm close to the MD line.

Well, I hate to part with such a priceless piece of technology, but I guess If the price was right...

Now to get the Plymouth and BMW to play well together. Anyone need/want an original rear and/or matching front end???

Finally clean up and sprayed with rust converter. There was barely any rust under the tar pit but I figured why not.

Well it's broke now. This is after stripping the frame down and removing a good 30-40 pounds of tar..........not sure who to blame.

So I thought I was finished with Mopars for a while when my '49 B1B went down the driveway but here I am again, this time with a 1947 Plymouth Deluxe Coupe. WARNING!!! Purists look away now! This will be more of a hot rod than a resto. There was no engine/trans, so it will be powered (fingers crossed) by a.....drumroll please....... . . . NO, NOT A SBC!!..........wait for it... . BMW V12, more precisely, the complete drivetrain from a 750 BMW (fingers crossed lol). Plans are for minor body mods and then sprayed likely a two-tone combo of copper metallic. Below are pics of the body and frame divorced (no, I don't have high-end equipment lol), a previous owner's high-tech suspension repair, AND the extremely rare lighted wheelwell option!!! Oh, FYI.........If you happen to be the previous owner who welded patches over the body mounting bolts on the floorboard, know that I may have cursed you and your family to the twelfth generation!

Well, every story has a beginning and an end. Here is the end of this one. The old girl is leaving me and headed a little farther North to begin the next chapter of its life in New York state. A little sad to see it leaving but it leaves space to begin something else. You die-hard Mopar guys will be glad to know that's a Ram dually pulling the trailer. lol

This is just cool to me. I was gathering up some leftover parts from my truck and came across the headlights. I converted to 12v so I replaced the headlights without really even paying attention to the originals. I turned the one over and was blown away to realize the headlights weren't just original to when I bought the truck, they are THE original headlights to when the truck was built! Next, I thought, "Well, surely they're beyond shot by now." Just for laughs, I run a jumper wire to a 12v battery (yes, 12v) and could not believe it. Both original lights burned on both beams! Now I can't say if it's because things were just better made then or if these lights were never used but below is photographic evidence. FYI: The light is being powered by 6v off the battery charger in the pic.

What is the proper resting postion (off position) for the vacuum powered wipers? My truck is a 1949 B1B. Mine rest against the center of the windshield but many pics I've seen are resting toward the outside (A-pillar area). If mine are wrong, are the wiper arms just positioned on the opposite studs on the wiper motor?

Thanks! We test fit the third hinge before painting and it seemed like it was going to scratch the heck out of the tailgate if we put it the other way. I wasn't sure if they just were that way or if it's because my tailgate is a little out of whack. My tailgate was nearly destroyed from a hard farm life and I'm not nearly a good enough body man to properly straighten it.

Much cooler than my first drive. What was yours?
Mr.Dids replied to Mr.Dids's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Technically my first driving experience was an ancient Craftsman garden tractor, followed shortly by the D15 Allis Chalmers we had/have on the farm. At about 8 my dad let me sit on my backpack and drive the Fury III home from the bus stop (1/2 mile or so). At around 11, my Pap died and I inherited his approx. '52 Willys Jeep. I beat the living snot out of the poor thing and learned how to keep old junk running. lol. Wish I still had it. Hindsight. -

Mine was a '70?? Plymouth Fury III I don't consider myself brand loyal anymore but most of my life I was a bowtie fan, so no, I guess not. -
Build pretty much complete, so what better way to celebrate the hours and dollars invested than by throwing your 12 year old behind the wheel for a driving lesson? Two questions here: 1. What did you take your first drive in? 2. If you are brand loyal, is it the same make as that first drive? FYI: She did great!! We may address completely shutting the door in lesson 2. lol

I just received/installed the hei unit from Langdons. It requires 12v conversion which I was doing anyway. One 12v hot current from the switch and a bracket to mount the coil (I opted for the square coil. If one were to use the optional round coil, they could use the original coil bracket.) and it fired right up. I love it. To be fair, I never ran the truck with the original points style distributor for comparison. Rebuilding my original distributor was going to cost me at minimum within 10 bucks of the new unit so for me it was a no brainer.

Well huh, I thought I'd been around the block a few times but I don't believe I've ever seen those. Need to get out more perhaps, or open my eyes more when I am.
-
No, I like it, well other than it makes me wonder why I didn't think of that. lol

I've heard the same. They are all I currently have which fit the bolt pattern. Downside of buying an old Dodge after a lifetime of GM is that all my spare parts fit GM vehicles of one sort or other. I'm not arguing with you but I don't get the issue with trailer wheels. My 7,000# trailer has the exact same wheels. It goes down the road much faster and carrying a lot more weight than this old truck ever will.
-
Nope, busted. They are trailer wheels. My originals were shot and these are serving to move it and test drive (I live well off the beaten path) until I find suitable replacements. Since they've been on, the white is growing on me but I'm not sure. Oh, and I'm not sure what you mean by spider caps.

Haha, really? We (my dad and I) debated for some time over that tailgate support and even tried to find pics of others but found pics showing each way and finally settled on the way it is now. My bed floor was gone. The cabinet maker in me couldn't paint hardwood, so I went with natural cherry instead. My bed strips were shot and by shot I mean there was maybe 8-10 inches of one remaining. I thought to myself that I've not seen one done with wood strips so I made the strips from hard maple. I'm not sure if I like the contrast. Probably would have preferred walnut and cherry but maple is considerably harder than walnut.

Couple questions based on pictures below: Is proper light operation for the parking lights to go off when headlights are on? This is how mine works and based on the switch/wire orientation it appears correct but is not how most "modern" cars work so I'm just curious. I don't have a pic handy of the originals but my tailgate had two red reflectors, probably 3" or so in diameter bolted to the bottom of the tailgate in the area where you may be able to see the holes. Where these original equipment or possibly added later? Is the mirror pictured OE or added later? Also, should there be an inside rearview mirror or were these optional? My truck only has a driver's side sunvisor which I've learned is probably correct but I don't know about mirrors. There doesn't appear to be any provisions for mounting one.

My wheels desperately need painted. Below are some overall pics of the truck as a whole as well as a tighter shot of a wheel. They are currently white and the truck is a medium to dark grey. The wheels have stainless beauty rings which I intend to polish and reuse. My question is: What color do I paint the wheels? Possibilities in my mind include: white, black, matching grey, complimentary grey (probably lighter than body color), and bronze (this color looks nice on grey but I don't have anything else that color on the outside) I'm at an impasse and looking for opinions.
