Well I haven't attempted to adjust the timing past the point it stopped, as I haven't looked for the other nut that locks down the timing, but I can say it drove like an almost new car yesterday compared to what it has been driving like. It made it to almost 60 MPH before it lost power and backfired through the carb. Before I couldn't get past 30. Not sure what changed, but what a difference. Even took it for Ice Cream last night and nice short 30 mile round trip, it was wonderful. So I will adjust a wee more tonight if I have time after work. Now to just figure out why the clutch isn't releasing well going into first. Ugh a never ending battle of fun in my garage. I need to thin the herd is what I need to do, way too many projects.

I will check compression and hope for not valve sticking, just went to check timing and it was off a bit. Runs much smoother at idle now and when revving up at a stand still. But timing seems perfect right at the point I can't move the distributor any farther. I sadly am timing it by feel and sound at the moment but I am sure I can get it very close this way as I have before on many other vehicles. I will take it for a drive and see what happens.

I know it has been a while since I have been on here or posted for that matter. My 46 D24 original engine, had the carb rebuilt last year when the accelerator pump went bad. Only driven it a few weekends since then maybe 200 miles tops. So I went for a drive today maybe 8 miles, drove to the gas station filled it up and drove home, was planning to go for a nice drive this afternoon if all went well, but on the way home it started backfiring through the carb in 3rd gear trying to accelerate up a hill. It did this once in the spring as well when driving my youngest son and his date to the prom. Once it got warmed up and trying to go at speed say 35-45 mph giving it gas it would backfire through the carb. I am thinking maybe a fuel issue, pretty sure it is the original fuel pump as the car only has 51k miles on it. Thoughts?

That is good to hear I need a new exhaust and was just quoted over $400 at a local shop. I had to walk away, fast.

It was a very fun ride. But I built it to sell and I had it to long so a trade was a good idea. It was a 1200s so dual plug heads, converted to chain drive new tires, new paint, solo seat, rear set pegs with 1 up 4 down shift pattern. It would pull the front wheel in the first two gear. Very fast. But I have two other bikes in the garage as well.

Thanks Dan. Mine is a 4spd heavy duty trans, V8 Flathead 6v. I was thinking carb, but a) it never hurts to ask, and at mid 40's myself I still don't know as much as I did when I was a teenager, so I ask questions .

I love old Triumphs, one of these days I hope to get one. I had to pass on an Austin about a year ago sadly the title was lost in several owners of moving about.

Only if you might know other than carb what would cause the truck to only run 30 seconds or so. More of an off topic I think I am nuts.

So I have been unemployed for 3 months. And my dodge is running pretty much perfect. So I have 3 motorcycles in the garage. One being a Harley sportster cafe racer I built. Well today I set the deal to trade it for a 1951 Ford F2 the looks just about new. Very little body work ever done to it, sadly it was repainted white and the original color is a medium blue. It has the flat bed and flathead v8 with 4 speed trans. Starts up great but only runs about 30 seconds. I see fuel being pumped up to the fuel pump and to the carb. It has two see through fuel filters. New points distributor cap plugs and wires. I will post pics when I get to my computer.

Not sure which is cooler the the fact that you have a picture of the box or that they were in $6.95 new.

I drive around 60 mph pretty much top speed for me or that I want to drive the car although I am sure it can run faster. I am wanting the metal rings that make it look like the wheel is solid white.

Okay so after reading a ton on here and having just changed what almost appeared to be the original shocks on my car (one leaked all the oil out as soon as I laid it on the ground). I looked the WWW Bias tires over and have no idea when they were made other than prior to 2000 with the date codes were added in simple terms. I already drove them almost 2 hours and they feel great but don't want to trust them for any real long drives or for that matter I like being safe and don't want to have to try and change a tire on the side of the road in Cincinnati if I can help it. The backup on the interstate alone could take days to clear up as everyone would stop and look or take pictures. So I am thinking of getting some Radial tires (sorry to the purists, but I want to drive it not show it since I am unemployed I might as well enjoy some things in life while searching for a job. Anyways, I have read on here about the White Wall Rings that go under the hubcaps. I currently have 6.00x16 tires I am thinking P215/75-R16 I thought about LT215/85-R16 but they might be too tall. I do like the look of the white walls, so where in the world can I get a set of the White Wall Rings? So as to not get into trouble if you have a set PM me, but if you know where they can be purchased online please let me know, my google search has only yielded a set on ebay for $175 Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

With fluid drive it will still roll while in gear. So when you do move it, if the parking brake does not work have wheel blocks. Not sure on toe points but if it has sat long enough to make holes for the wheels I hope the brakes are not locked up as well.

The Harley gas tank bolt, I should have said stud. The nut side is stupid tight with lock tite. It is the side that goes into the tank that is backing out. I am think a good two part epoxy. The triumph the only part that seems to come loose so far is the exhaust spigot. Other than that it is the most reliable of my old vehicles. Thinking maybe getting the slightly larger thread option.

I thought they called this patina. The seller must not be a hipster.
