Coming soon to a news stand near you......

Now that's a sexy automobile. -
When buying my last daily driver I had to choose between a car I liked and one for 1,000 less which was black. Sadly I didn't win the final argument and drive a black automobile daily. I learned to love the paint and visual appearance of the car, but dislike the extra effort I take in keeping it clean and shiny.

Yeah I would say the spring is nearing 2 inches in length. And it appears to be in one piece. Oil pressure spikes at high idles and I'm going to start day 3 of my attempted removal of the darn thing. Gonna really work it with that easy out tonight.
-
After another full night of trying to remove that darn plunger I have to ask if there is an alternate way of getting at it. I removed the starter for an all access pass to the general area, which helped. I then used an easy out, which grabbed, but it wouldn't budge. Can I potentially get at it in any way if I take off the oil filter tube that is directly above it? How about the pan itself? I suppose my best bet is grabbing one of those flexible drill attachments and try try again. Or Dynamite... does anybody know how to make Dynamite?

I never did clean out the gas tank... shame on me. the fuel pump is in good working order and there is now a fuel filter in line, as i kept finding crud EVERYWHERE... shame on me again. Hey, at least I'm having fun. Sister and I are tracking down a replacement tank as we speak. And if I keep it half full, it doesn't leak at all

Works like a champ! but I've still got time to break it!

I really really like this forum!

I like the cut of your jib. Brother made it sound like it wasn't a big deal. I always felt funny about that. I tried to remove with with a screw, no dice. I borrowed some easy outs, but I just can't reach in there without removing the starter. Also thinking this would be a good time to drop the pan and assess the engine from the down below.

The original one was loose as can be, and no issues the entire time(when engine was running water pump moved freely and generator was generating). The new one I had in there pretty loose (where if you moved the fan the engine wouldn't turn) now its tight enough to move the engine.

I do have oil pressure, it goes all over the place, up and down and left and right. But I still think the plunger is stuck as stuck.

Water pump is already in really bad shape, and replacing that has been high on my list for awhile.

I've developed an unusual squeal sound when driving. As I'm terrible at defining squeal vs squeak vs grind. I'll just say I think it is a bearing somewhere in the engine. It seems to be the most noticeable when I let off the accelerator. Things I know. My oil pressure relief valve is stuck and I want to assume oil isn't going where it belongs.(it's pushed all the way in the block, no luck removing it yet) I replaced the belt recently and cranked it on as tight as possible so I don't think it is that. Also it sounds more metallic to me. I dunno, fact is I need to rebuild. But I'm trying to work out all the road kinks before I dive in. And now I'm nervous driving with

Because my grandfather constantly tinkered with and modified his cars, it's entirely possible I don't have the right fuel pump in this car. But here's some photographs! Also poorly lit.

I'd like to see how you hook them up. You know, for inspiration.
-
I've been considering an auxiliary electric pump one way or the other. But I keep hearing horror stories of that modern pump whistle sound coming from the back of the car, and that scares me off.
-
I haven't seen any liquid come out of the fuel lines. But that doesn't mean I've looked in the right areas.
-
I now have a box of fuel pumps. I think it's time to start swapping them around. I added an inline fuel filter and already noticed my fuel flow is minimal to say the least.

My bro says to use ammonia. I used it for my carb with positive results. It didn't eat deposits off like acetone would, but he says that's the point. It's gentle.

well i did just find two dozen tiny holes in my tank.....

Hi, I have recently gotten my d24(with a p24 engine and carter b&b carb) up and running. Thing is I haven't gone more than a mile from my house yet. After the engine has been on the road for a bit and warmed up, I start having what seems like fuel starvation problems. If I lay on the accelerator the engine acts like it is running out of gas. I have rebuilt the carb, but in all honesty, it was my first carb rebuild. Float levels and accelerator pump might not be calibrated very well at all. but my Bro is a real life mechanic and he handled the idle speed and other screw on the outside, so I feel like they're alright. So, the bro said he would rebuild the carb for me, but I was just curious if there was some other explanation for my current issues.

Oh yeah, Bernbaum is amazing!

There must be a window molding maker out there for this tired old rubber too, isn't there?

I have original glass in my 1947 d24. The windshield and door glass will all eventually need replacing, but it is low on my priority list. With that being said, my driver door window has been rolled down basically since I got the car in my garage and it seems that the stress of opening and closing the doors has created a new huge set of cracks on the driver window. Is there any recommendations on slowing this inevitable process? I decided to keep the windows rolled up from now on, as I think they'll have less free play and won't wiggle quite as much. But any other advice would be helpful.

Yeah that's looking like a sweet runner there

Well. I have the car street legal. I am trying to do one thing at a time, first it was get the engine running, which I did, then I got the brakes operational, which was awesome. Now I'm just working out the little kinks. Got my exterior lighting mostly functional(really only one parking light doesn't light up.) Took it for a reasonable neighborhood drive and I started losing power, and finally it stalled. Decided it was either out of gas or I had a clog in the line somewhere. Put my spare 1 gallon in and barely made it back home. Still not exactly sure what that was all about, so I haven't been adventurous enough to take it on another long car drive. Starting to think a AAA membership is in order for me soon. Or at least the 24/7 phone number for a good tow truck.
