  1. Hello All, Hoping someone has the answer (someone usually does!) I'm starting to piece my truck box back together. There are 4 2'' c-channel braces that are bolted across the truck frame and from there the bed material is screwed down into these 4 pieces. My question is: I have 3 pieces that are just over 48'' long and one that is just over 40'' long. Where does the short one go? At the rear? Front? 2nd? 3rd? Any insight will be helpful. thanks Nathan
  2. Hello All, I bought a set of cab mounts for the fargo from Roberts motor parts. Each pair has a thick rubber and a thinner rubber. Can anyone tell me which one goes under the cab and which one goes under the mounting bracket? I have the shop manual but is doesn't distinguish the two. I am guessing that if you put the wrong on under the cab you could have a problem lining the body parts up? Also what are people using for the fender welting between the front of the fenders and the grille section? I had thought it was just plain old welting, but after taking things apart it looks a little different. If anyone here has a good idea for what to use I'm all ears. Thanks Nathan
  3. Hello All, Last week I pulled the front fenders off of the radiator support. I had assumed that between the front of the fenders and the grille piece that it was just plain old fender welting. It actually looks more like a thick piece of 2 sided tape. My question is, what are you guys using in between there when you put the truck back together. I don't see anything available from Robert's. Also. I bought new cab mounts (1948 1/2 ton) from Roberts. One rubber is about 3/4'' thick and the other is an inch thicker. Which one goes right under the cab, and which one goes under the mount? |My old ones are too beat up to tell and the shop manual doesn't seem to show a difference in thickness between top and bottom rubbers. Thanks for any info! Nathan
  4. I'm thinking mine has had a long hard life. There appears to be a large amount of play in the ring and pinion. Also I'd like an e brake. I'm planning on opening the old one up and seeing how it looks inside. Maybe I'll use it....but I still want a backup plan. Nathan
  5. I was hoping to use the stock rear end. I still may use it but I'd like to have an alternative ready to go. What's the best fit for my 48 1/2 ton? Needs to have original bolt pattern. Gear ratio isn't a huge deal as I'm running an OD trans. Just want something that's as close to "bolt in" as possible and has an E-brake. Looking forward to your input. Thanks Nathan
  6. I bought one of those for my 48 1/2 ton. Looks like it will do just fine.
  7. My Dolphins were about $300 for the pair. Yes it's cheap compared to Classic, but I couldn't justify a $600 set of gauges in a truck I'm hoping to have less than $5 grand in. Hopefully I didn't make a big mistake. My main reason for the Dolphins was that they fit nearly perfectly. If you use Classic's 3 3/8' gauges now you've got some more fitment issues, and likely won't look as good in the bezel. I'll take my chances I guess.
  8. You have to check which brand of gauges you buy. Some of them required a 4 3/8'' hole.....too small. I asked Dolphin and they said 4 9/16'' which is great as the hole opening in the bezel is 4 5/8''. I'm just tickled with how good they fit. Now just to get the rest of it looking that good!
  9. Hello. I'm likely not the first one to think of this, but I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out so I thought I'd share. I'm getting my old 48 Fargo 1/2 ton back on the road. Stock chassis with sbc and OD trans. I didn't want to butcher or change the dash any more than I had to so I found 2 of the speaker grilles and punched the mesh out of them. I bought a set of Dolphin quad 5'' gauges. The gauges fit almost perfectly in the speaker grille, and I can use the 4 original screw holes to mount the whole thing. It looks very clean, and no work involved! Just thought I'd share. Puts the speedo in the original spot as well. thanks Nathan
  10. Thanks Merle, Good to know. I'm running an overdrive, so that should help on the highway. Like you say, I won't know until I get it apart. thanks
  11. Hello. I've got a '48 Fargo 1/2 ton. I hadn't noticed before that I've got quite a bit of play in the rear end. I can turn the drive shaft about 1/3 turn either way before anything engages inside the housing. I haven't opened it up to see yet, but I was wondering what my chances are of finding parts to repair this? Or if anyone else has had a similar problem and has some words of wisdom for me that would be great. thanks Nathan
  12. thanks for the help guys. I didn't realize for whatever reason that I needed 4 pairs. I ended up cutting the big ones down to the same thickness as the thinner ones. That gave me 4 the same size to set the cab down. Then I called Roberts and ordered up the rest.
  13. Hello All, Newbie here from Sask, Canada. I've recently started rebuilding my Grandpa's 48 Fargo 1/2 ton. I'm to the stage of putting the cab back on pretty soon. I read the few posts on this forum dealing with this already, but still not certain. My problem is, I bought 4 new cab mounts from Roberts motor parts. The part #'s were the same. When they arrived I found that I had two different sizes. One pair is about 1'' thick and the other pair is 2'' thick. What gives?? I am thinking about cutting down the thick pair to make them all the same. Are they supposed to be different?? I read about the left front one being different. Any help would be appreciated.
