  1. I recently bought a new steering wheel and horn ring for my '48 P-15. Removing the old steering wheel and installing the new one was simple, BUT......I cannot (even after several tries) figure out how to attach the horn to the horn ring assembly so that it honks only when pressed. It has a large spring that goes behind the "t" shaped metal retainer that attaches to the steering wheel itself and the horn wire comes up the middle........ but where (and how) does that wire attach to the horn ring ? Any help will be appreciated. Mike
  2. I'm not sure what happens when the ign is off......I'll have to check that. Thanks Mike
  3. I recently installed a new 6 volt + ground voltage regulator in my 1948 p-15 in hopes of correcting a no charge situation but found that nothing changed so I put the old one back on and had the same reading at the ammeter .....-dis, charge just to the left of center,no charge with increased engine speed and even more - when stepping on the brake pedal or turning on the lights, I thought it might be the generator so I shut the car off removed the armature and field connections from the generator and started the car back up and had the same exact reading as with it connected.......does this indicate a bad generator ? I'm thinking so but I don't know for sure......any help would be greatly appreciated !
  4. HELP ! After going to three different auto supply stores trying to buy a replacement 6 volt positive ground voltage regulator for my '48 P-15 and dealing with so many morons that I felt like I was watching "One flew over the cockoos nest" over and over (one kid even said " I dunno....I ain't no 'lectrician" , I decided that these kids were going to be of absolutely no help and that (as I have realized many times) I should go right here where all the wisdom is. I tried to cross reference the part number on the POC parts listing page (V2) but nothing showed up .....also tried NAPA # vr25 and have nearly worn out my computer searching the web Can anyone here tell me a part number, manufacturer and/or auto supply store or any other source where I can buy this part ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Mike
  5. Thanks (again) for sharing your wisdom......the schematic did help but I now have another question.......can the unit only mount one way at the top of the tank ? if not, should the bend in the float rod face to the lafet or right side of the tank (could be toward the front or back of the tank, too I guess. If I can find this out, I will feel confident about doing the install correctly and getting "Stella Baby" back on the road today or tomorrow. Mike
  6. Just yesterday I received a new two wire sending unit for my '48 p-15 with 6 volt system, but there were no installation instructions or diagrams with it.....since I don't know for sure that the one in the car now is installed properly and the manual is not specific, I am hoping someone here might have a diagram or a pic of the top of the unit as it appears installed. THANKS Mike
  7. Thankks to all the help I got here, my ammeter problem has been solved (the battery wasn't in backwards) and I just received in the mail the brand new (not NOS) two wire fuel level sending unit that goes in the tank and tells the gas guage how much fuel is in the tank......but no insructions......although there is one already in the car, that may or may not be properly installed,,Iwould feel better knowing that I was doing it right the first time , so,does anyone happen to have the steps for installing this or a pic of it after installation. Thanks guys ! Mike
  8. Actually, I did a few things that were suggested here......cleaned and tightened all connections at ammeter, voltage regulator and generator, also "sparked" (polarized ) the regulator and oiled the armteur of the generator, all this, combined with a few often used cuss words ,seemed to do the trick....not sure exactly what step did the trick but the combination of covering all bases seemed the way to go. Thanks again guys Mike
  9. Tim and Greg; Thanks for your help......it's amazing how easily a problem can be solved simply by asking guys on this site ! Thanks again and Happy Motoring................ Mike
  10. For a long time the ammeter on my 48 p-15 with 6 volt system read +10 amps (just to the right of the center of the guage) when idling or driving.....now I see that it reads -10 (just to the left of the center of the guage) but doesn't go any lower.....does this mean there is a draw somewhere or is this pretty much the way it should be ? I checked my manual and it doesn't get very specific on this topic. Any help anyone may have to offer would be very much appreciated. Thanks Mike
  11. I think I can see some dash chrome through the passenger side widow....if so,would you be interested in selling any of it ? Please let me know . Thanks Mike
  12. Hey,guys: Thanks for all your help...........as it turns out a universal 6 cylinder set (Thanks,Don) will work just fine.......Don't know why the auto part store (checker) thought it had to be so specific..........maybe just trying to prevent a return. Happy Motoring ! Mike
  13. I want to replace the spark plug wires on my '48 p-15 w/ 6 volt system but none of the auto part stores can cross reference to give me what I need ...can anyone here help me with this ? Thanks ..................MIKE
  14. Thanks to everyone for your input.......what spark plugs would you recommend for hotter spark ? Thanks Mike
  15. My '48 P-15 looks good and runs pretty good but the exhaust is damp and carbon-like when first starting up......have checked the owners manual for carb adjustment,etc.......but still have the same problem.....anyone here have any suggestions on how to remedy this ? Happy Motoring ! Mike
  16. A two wire thermostatic 6 volt fuel dending unit is the float/sensoe mechanism inside the gas tank that relays fuel level status to the gas guage
  17. Does anyone have or know where I can get a two wire 6 volt thermostatic fuel level sender ?
  18. Thanks for your input guys, the sending unit I got from J.C. Whitney is a single wire and although that was one my main concerns when ordering it,their customer service assured me it would work but as often happens, that may not necessarily be true. Thanks again
  19. I recently purchased a sending unit for my '48 p-15 (6volt) from J.C. Whitney and thought it would be a simple drop in, wire up installation but they talk about shortening the arm as needed but don't tell how to determine what that length should be ........has anyone here installed one of these or have any info ? Any help will be greatly appreciated
  20. Thanks for your input......I ordered a set of six #81 bulbs that are supposed to replace the 55's perfectly......I compared the sizes and they appear to be the same.......maybe I'll luck out...........Thanks again for your help
  21. I want to change out all the bulbs in '48 p15 from #55 6 volt to #81 6 volt ,however, I have no reference for bulb numbers or locations since half the bulbs are missing.....if someone could help me I would really appreciate it ..................Thanks !
