BobT-47P15 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) Am trying to re-do the turn signals on the car. The flasher unit I bought on ebay is a Chicago Auto Lamp 9000 unit which came with NO instructions. I took it apart, looked at where the wires fasten to it, and made some guesses......but still don't really know which wires go where. So, am experimenting. A 7 wire signal. On the flasher cannister there are 3 prongs......one marked P, one marked X, and one marked L. I can't find the sheet that came with the flasher when I bought it, so can't recall what those 3 letters really mean. Couldn't find a previous post with that exact info. I think P is for the pilot light in the turn signal. On my previous system, power wire with fuse was attached to X. But, not sure where the L goes...........on the old signal diagram it didn't explain......just said which wire connects to it. Any info helpful. Looked on the net and couldn't come up with a diagram for the flasher unit. Edited July 13, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Bob, There's a guy on the HAMB that had one. Maybe check with him on the ID of the seven wires, if you haven't already. Here's the link..http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=452609 Tom Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) Thanks, Tommy, I hadn't seen that one. Sent the guy a message. There was one fellow on the HAMB the other day when I asked who said he had that model, and had to figure it out himself. I later sent him a PM, but so far no reply. He may not have made notes about how he did it. I often fail to make notes after wiring up something, then when someone asks later, I don't remember just what I did. One thing I'm discovering about these turn signals is their color schemes on wiring are all different......no standardization that I can find. Edited July 13, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Bob, this is the schematic for my 7-wire Signal-Stat. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks Tony. How you doing? Haven't heard from you in quite a while. Still have your car (or cars)? Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Hi Bob, I have a NOS unit like that, in my garage, but I can't remember if it came with a wiring diagram. It's the middle of the night here and I'm just heading off to bed. Then I'll be at a funeral tomorrow. Hopefully on Thursday I'll have time to take a look for you. If I have the diagram I'll scan it and email to you. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 Thanks for the offer, Robin..........saved by Dave, plyman 50.......... who PMd me about how his is wired........that did the trick. I was wanting to get them working as I'm going to chauffeur another bride and groom from our church to their reception at the end of the month. Robin, what is the significance of the big white ribbon used on the front part of the car when a vehicle is used in a wedding......? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 14, 2010 Author Report Posted July 14, 2010 Just in case anyone has one of these Chicago 9000 turn signal units, here is how the wiring goes. There don't seem to be any diagrams I could find for these......did see some for other brands. Yellow..........................to brake light switch Brown...........................to left rear Red..............................to left front Light green.....................to right front Light blue.......................to right rear Black to "L" terminal on a 3 prong flasher Orange to "P" terminal on flasher - for indicator light Power from back side of ignition switch is attached to "X" terminal of flasher.
