first of all, thanks to all members who gave me helpful advice for my trip to N.C. from long island, N.Y..the 54 windsor ran well the whole trip. i stayed overnite in VA and finished up the next day.the car used alot of oil, about 1 qt every 125 miles, but the #3 & # 4 cylinders only have about 65 lbs of compression so that is probably where it is going, the others are at 110. i did 55 mph most of the trip. i did have 2 problems. one was the left rear brake was hanging up and squealing, but it would let up only slowly. you could feel it drag for a few second after using the brakes. does not seem like it was related to the long trip but i won't know until i pull the drum. probably a wheel cylinder. the other problem was it would not start and i sometimes had to jump it at the solenoid on the fenderwall near the battery. an intermittent problem that showed up near the end of the trip. i never had problems with that unit so i am not that familiar with it. can it be repaired/rebuilt or should it be replaced? are new units available? anyway, the trip was great and people admired the car wherever i stopped. these cars sure are fun to drive and

most of us agree they should be driven. thanks again, dennis

the trip was 800 miles and at 55 mph it seemed to take forever. i suppose some of our classics with overdrive and rebuilt drivetrains can keep up with the higher speed limits, 70 in some places, but ascot is all original and i felt it was not good to push too hard. my next long trip i will plan out to take longer and do some fun stops. this time i just needed to get there. dennis
