The biggest problem I have had with my '40 for the past twenty years is the brakes.

On page 77 of the 1936 to 1942 manual it states tp turn the brake shoe adjusting cam until the wheel won't movem then back off.

I have done this, but question is, when turning the cam to bring the top of the shoe out, which way do I turn the cam? I have turned the cam both down and up and the wheel won't move, so I am lost at this point.

My wife says I have been "lost" for years:):)

Is the correct way to turn the cam clockwise or counter clockwise.

I appreciate any help I can get from everyone,

Bob

I had a play with the brakes on my 41 plymouth last weekend, I checked and rechecked the manual, and I turned the adjusting nut SLOWLY from the top towards the front on the front shoe, and from the top towards the back on the rear shoe for each drum, under the "minor" adjustment section it shows a pic with a small arrow showing the direction to turn the nut......andyd

Bob, looking at your US Drivers front brake backing plate......the front adjusting nut looking at it you turn clockwise, the back adjusting nut on this brake you turn anti clockwise.........now looking at the US passenger side front brake, the front adjuster nut you turn anticlockwise and then looking at this brakes rear nut you turn it clockwise..........and when doing the back brakes do the same direction as the front brakes on that side of the car........hope this makes sense......lol......drum brakes......another reason why my 41 plymouth is getting disc brakes all round like the 40 dodge........lol.......andyd
