Guest 49 pilot Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Just an update , I have stripped down the frame on my b1b, removed front and rear leaf springs, and found holes I can put my fist through, behind the mounting brakets for the springs. I have been grinding the frame down with a sanding disc on my 4 1/2 angle grinder. ( on my second grinder, first one caught fire and got tossed into the snowbank. ) I had to cut the rear arched cross member out as it was eaten up with rust at its frame mounting points. I will take a walk around our local metal recycleing yard to find some scaps to rebuild it. I have learned one important tip. do not wear wool gloves when sparks are involved. Although they keep your pinkys warm , they do have a nasty habbit of catching on fire, its this fire that tell ones wife just how smart you really. Thanking you all once again for your advice.....Doug. Quote
MBF Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 You may want to check the forum to see if anyone has a parts frame that is in better shape than yours is. I know I'm going to have to one of my cross members down the road too-not looking forward to that at all. Mike Quote
grey beard Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Mr. Pilot, I say "Amen" to Mr. Fowler's suggestion. I would stop work on that rusty frame YESTERDAY and search for a better one. Please don't think of using it, for in most states vehicles with frame rust/repair must sell as salvage units. Don't know where you live, but here in soutrheastern PA I know of TWO Dodge B series frames available just now - one even has a complete power train to go with it. JMHO Quote
Bill pilot99 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 I'm in NC, I have a spare frame. pilot99@alltel.net Quote
