hello all knowledgeable ones, is it save to remove 4 springs to lower the rear of my 49 B1B about 1 1/2 inches . I won't be towing nor will I load the bed down with lumber. The past two weekends I have stripped the truck down to just the frame. Ready to start sanding, I've been told that POR-15 is the best paint to use on rusty metal ...once again,,,thanks for the advice....

If you can find longer shackles for the rear of a Pilot House (C type shackles)-you will have found something! Removing leaves is in effect going to legnthen your spring as the spring flattens out-you'll want to make sure that you still have travel left in the shackle to handle the bumps your sure to hit. Good luck-Mike

I am also considering this procedure, As seen in the pic I have extra leafs below the main spring. (G'dad wanted to haul more than 1/2 tonne sometimes.) These "over-rider" springs will be the first to go. But if a lower height were required would it be wiser to remove alternate spring leafs or the several from the bottom of the pack?

Ultimately I want it sitting about standard height and flat.

Cheers.

I took the bottom leafs (3 or 4) out of mine and never had a problem. I also put the rear on the top of the springs to drop it even lower but that required "C " the frame also. It all depends how low you want to go.

I took a couple leafs out of my old project and put the rear on top the springs. Also you can take the c shaped shackle out move the spring from under the shackle bracket to the top and put the shackle back in. This will lower it about 2inches.
