Hi all, have any of you had to refurbish your gloveboxes, I have mine out, it is somewhat battered, I need to graft a piece of cardboard to one corner, thinking of reinforcing it with fibreglass cloth and resin, then give it a paint job.

Also want to make kick panels, not sure what I may use for this job.

Just some cold weather projects for in the house..........Thanx Fred

Fred, I think I wrapped my glovebox on the outside with duct tape then painted it black. Gave it some strength, and doesn't show anyway. There are often reproduction boxes on ebay.

Just need heavy cardboard for kick panels......can paint or cover them.

These are now on ebay. View ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/40-50-53-56-Plymouth-Kick-Panels_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42612QQihZ004QQitemZ140192167537QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Fred,

I used flexible nylon board to make my kick panels. The type they make nylon washers out of. Got it from a company that makes conveyor belts, gaskets and washers. Was in their shop and noticed some good sized scrap pieces in the dumpster. Was going to use the scrap but then the owner gave me a couple of larger pieces. Is that the price you want to make your's for? Then just covered it with the same material I used for the door panels. So...........as Bob T pointed out, you can make them out of almost anything. In fact, I made templates out of an old cardboard box. Still have them someplace in case I ever need to make new ones. They would have worked too because it was good stiff cardboard.

Reinforced the glovebox with similar backer board from scrap pieces, it does not look pretty on the outside, but you don't see the outside anyway. Because the inside is so rough and dirty, I think I will cover it with Mac Tac or something, tried to spray a shot of paint in there, this material did not take the paint well, the paint just seemed to disappear into the fibre.................Fred

Fred,

That board that the glove box is made of is the same material used for the kick panel heating vents on the dual heaters. On those, I cleaned them up, then painted those. However, it took a lot of coats of paint to cover that stuff because it just soaks in. If you keep painting it, you'll eventually get enough coats on it to seal it so the paint covers it.

Fred, I used cloth and resin on the outside of my 53 glovebox liner. It was intact but getting fragile and tearing at the corners. The cloth/resin worked great. After it cured I sanded off the stray cloth and resin, and sprayed it inside and out with satin black or flat black. It will now outlast the rest of the car.

Does anyone know what the 3 holes about 5/16 in the back of the glovebox are for, they don't appear to be mounting holes, is it for ventilation or something. I have the glove box all painted nice, the box itself is warped, but once it's back in it will straighten a bit, be okay till someday I get a repro.................Fred
