47heaven Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Just wanted to mention on here that until this last Sunday I was pretty down in the dumps about how poorly the car was running, so I gave Norm in Glendora a call and he had me go up there to look things over. Turns out the the timing was too advanced and the carburator mixture was not set right, even though I had tried to attempt it. Sure enough, Norm found the problems and fixed them. I watched so that I would know how to do it myself next time. After he did the adjustment, we took the car for a drive up the street and off the road we saw a P15 sedan and a couple other older cars parked in the yard. We drove in and two older gentlemen were chatting. Turns out that one of the guys had just purchased the 1948 P15 sedan and has plans to restore it. He also had a '35 and '40 Ford coupe, 1940 Ford truck and a newly purchased 1950 Ford 2-door sedan. He said he's normally a Ford guy, but wants to try a Plymouth for a change. After we got back to Norm's house, he helped me install the original style wolf whistle that I had purchsed a day before at Mooneyes. Since I don't use the throttle anymore, we rigged it to work off of that knob. With a little practice I'll have the whistling sequence just right. Nonetheless, it's a crack up to see girl's expressions when I pass by and sound it...even the older ladies blush. LOL Thanks again, Norm...now I'm a happy camper! Quote
Normspeed Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 I enjoyed the company, and glad we could smooth out that nice Coupe of yours. I was cracking up, listening to the whistle as you drove away last night. I'm a little envious, your car makes better vacuum than mine. My 2 carbs and cam take away from optimum whistle performance. Darin's shop recently replaced his B&B carb with a nice little Holley carb. A good fit and it runs nice. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 It's nice to have someone to help out sometimes. It's been a long, long time since I looked at the Mooneyes site. I've been thinking about a Wolf Whistle for my coupe for several years. Went to the site to look, never got to it though. I did see these SB Chevy chromed cast valve covers on there though for the low, low price of only $285.00. That really upset me to see them selling at this low price. I just bought a new pair just like them from a vendor at a local swap meet. He charged me the very, very high price of $30.00 for the pair. I'll bet there's a lot of other people mad who bought them at that price from that vendor too for charging that much because he has them every time I see him at the meet. Some people have all the nerve. Not only that, but I didn't get the gaskets so I'll have to spend another $20 or so for those. Geez. https://www.mooneyesusa.com/Store/product_info.php?products_id=564&osCsid=1da939df088f4e3355f6acbdf76bd5c1 Quote
Normspeed Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Back when Dean Moon died unexpectedly, the shop pretty well curled up and died. I recall driving past it in the 80's, I worked near there, and it was all closed up. The shady side of me came within a heartbeat of taking the "Moon Equipment Shipping and Receiving" sign off the pole at the end of the alley. A new fellow apparently bought it, I believe his name is Chico although he is Asian. He is a pretty shrewd businessman and yet quite a decent guy. He truly respects the long history of Moon. He's expensive, but his quality is real good. Whenever I get in the area it's fun to take a spin through the shop. All the fun old bolt-on stuff. They still have a very active machine shop, race car shop, etc. on the same location. These shots were from last June with some Fla hot rod buddys. If ya close one eye and squint with the other you'll see my black wagon reflected in the plate glass next to the van:D No real 32 Fords were harmed in the making of this film. Quote
