Guys,

I think it's time to try to solve the slow leak from the back of my motor.

What's your experience of fitting a 2-piece neoprene seal without removing the motor?

Am I likely to fix the leak, or set up a whole other problem by dislodging what's currently in place?

Would be nice to know how it has worked for others.

Also, where's the best place to get the seal?

Thanks.

Robin.

Robin-

There are two types of seals, one is a face mount like the old rope seal, and the other is one that goes into a grove machined into the block and rear main bearing cap.

If your block has the groove for the neoprene seal, you should be able to install the new seal fairly easily. You will have to pull the pan, and the rear main bearing cap to put it in... The top half of the seal will slip in around the crank without pulling the crank.
