engine and body #'s & Frames

Hi everyone:

I took these numbers down yesterday and wonder if anyone can tell me what they mean

The # on the front of the block on the driver side is 11490

on the tag on the firewall

mod 482

body 2

paint 7

trim 15

body 5452

then there is 0660172 on the bottom of the tag

Any ideas?

By the way it appears the frames under the club coupe Chrysler are the same as under the 4 door sedan does anyone know what other frames are the same....Dodge?,Desoto?, Plymouth?.

I take it this is an American car. judging by the body tag.

Is that number "11490" stamped onto the engine or on a tag attached to the engine? If it is on a tag, the engine is probably a rebuild (Sears. Chrysler, etc.). If it is stamped on the engine, is there anything before the numbers?

This would be the model number, with "4" for Chrysler, "8" for the series and "2" for the body style.

then there is 0660172 on the bottom of the tag

I suspect that is for the shipping order number.

(The Canadian tag had Model, Body, Paint and Trim info. It was last used for 1965. Not sure when it was first used, but I know the 1935 models used it.)

As for the chassis frame, the Chrysler Royal/Windsor frame is the same as the DeSoto frame. The Dodge Meadowbrook/Coronet frame is two inches shorter. Mind you, you could mount your body on the frame and use the Dodge front clip as the difference in length is all in the engine compartment. The Chrysler Saratoga/New Yorker is also longer in the engine compartment and thus has a longer frame. The Plymouth frame is much shorter as well as narrower. Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler all shared one body while Plymouth has one of its own.

"11490" is stamped on the engine...I will double check to see if there is anything before it next time I am in the shop.

Hey Bill:

I finaly remembered to check the engine number on my car it reads M11490C

and it is stamped into the block and it is the long block engine.
