Back to My 1947 Desoto Fuel Pump

Okay, I had ordered a rebuild kit for what is a 588 fuel pump.  I realized that some of the parts do not measure up to the original. Valves are different for one. Diaphragm not as thick and hefty as original. No surprise, egh?

I have been looking at the real deal, which I have two of, and see that the pump that came off my DeSoto is much heftier than the 588, which is a close copy.  I am figuring on a mix and match of parts - choosing the original as the base -  of original and rebuild parts where the new parts seem to be at least compatible with the original pump.

I also see that two rebuild kits offer differently designed valves.  One company's looks like the original valves, the other's not.  Diaphragm spring on the original is much stiffer than the replacements. I suppose this is to be expected and why Chinese parts don't hold up as long or leak after a time.

I guess after all that is this:  Can you see any problem in mixing & matching parts on the original pump?
