Lee Exline Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 I Recieved a instant message through microsoft instant messenger from a car collector in Iceland that I often exchange information and images with. Here is what the title looked like hp://iceage.ic.funpic.org/index.php?pic2038.jpg cool? I have left out some of the HTML so it does not work as a link here I thought it was another picture he was sending me so I clicked on the link and all hell broke loose. I have been on the web for a long time so I have a number of anti-virus programs and firewalls running but the sucker made it in. If you have this vius you may not know what is causing all of your problems? first sign is a lot of popup advertisements and the IE window will have a 888bar search engine toolbar. (you can not remove it through add/remove prrograms) The programs I had found the virus but could not ge rid of it but at least it did keep me from spreading it to other peoples systems. The only program I found that worked to delete it was from www.grisoft.com AVG new antispyware program version 7.5.0.50 that has to be updated after downloading and installing then you have to select to delete the files not quarentine them. I hope this helps warn others sos they do not get this little nasty bugger. Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 I looked at the grisoft site but there were so many options I could not decide. I do not mind spending the money but do not want to dupslicate what I already have. I am running Adaware, Spybot , Spy Sweeper and TrendMicro. I did not have a good service or protection from MacAfee. What do you suggest? Thanks, Frank Quote
Lee Exline Posted November 21, 2006 Author Report Posted November 21, 2006 The freeware version of avg anti-spyware is what I used. I havee most of the programs you mentioned and it still got in. But at least this removed i! Quote
Ed Griffin Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 I had the AVG freeware on a laptop and it also works well to clean your computer out each day before turning it off. I'm glad you posted the site. I wanted it for this computer, thanks! Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Thanks Lee , I am advised that all the protection I have may not stop this virus. A recent article somewhere( Newsweek, Consumers Report) ? Rated what I had as the best combination for protection.. It is nice to hear from the field what may be necessary to protect. I will add at least the freeware. Thanks again , Frank Quote
