I am sure no one else has this problem  but I am having a hard time finding basic tune up parts. My truck is a 1950 B1B but my engine appears to be out of a 1954 Fargo and is the long block 237 with a Spitfire head.

NAPA is usually pretty good but it is hard to get to them becuase of store hours and location. So when I try the local Schucks (ie teenager run counter) it gets a little trickier. So here is my question.

What vehicle is the most common that came with a 237 so when they can't find their old books and are stuck on the computer I can tell them a 19??, dodge model ???? With the old books you can scan for the engine code 237 (3.9L) but we always seem to find the 230 (3.8).

Also for you 237 owners does anyone have a list of typical NAPA or other parts #s for basic replacement items? Maybe we can create a list that we can compile and grow.

Mech Fuel Pump NAPA M847

Thanks for any help given.....

Take some close up photos of your dist. and get the number off of it. Take these with you to the store and they can match what you need that way.

Actually, I think you have a De Soto 236.6 cid engine... some catalogs round-up to the next whole number... thus, the "237"... The '41-'50 Chrysler six was 250.6 cid, but nearly everyone refers to it as the "251".

The "Spitfire" head confirms a 25" "big block" six...

If the bore is 3-7/16" and stroke is 4-1/4", then this is definitely the 236 De Soto engine (1942 - 195?), which you might have more luck searching parts under.

Good luck !
