Just removed the tie rod/ball joint assembly from my 48 Dodge. The seals around the ball joints appear to be leather, could this be true and do you think these parts could original to the car? Thanks

These could very well be original. Leather cups were used right up into the 50s in some cases. If they are original you may want to consider replacing them. ES158 L or R is the one you need, still available at NAPA.
