chucky07 Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 ran engine today again..flushed block...ran about 180 deg. while idleing for a while..i could not see water flowing through the radiator opening tho..so wondering if waterpump is working... Can someone answer this pls....ok i changed oil again this morning..and started up engine..the oil presure started at about 40ish according to my gauge..then within a few minutes running it went way down to just above 0 on the gauge...im thinking i have low oil pressure...I also noticed a weird whining noise..don't know if it was the gen. bushings or what....but I looked down at the Crankshaft pulley and it has a definate wobble to it..I got really scared when I noticed this and shut engine off.. Am i going to need to pull engine?? What would you guys do next if you were me...This is my first time trying to resusitate an old truck and I really like this truck..so I'm not going to stop now... norrism1 Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Sounds like you have a bubble in the coolant system. Remove the output hose to the heater core and allow it to burp the air out. If still having no circulation then check the water pump. As for the oil drop, sounds like the bypass spring is broken or weak. Quote
Thunder II Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 As for the weird whining noise, check the belt tension. Be sure to "lube" everything also. My truck isnt available to check, so look at yours. I believe, its the generator, that has a small cup, with a spring loaded cap on it. You need to put a few drops of oil in there. its about the size of a pencil eraser. Once you see it, you'll know what I mean. Look aroun the engine to see if there are any additional ones. If so, give them a little attention also. As for the wobble in the vibration dampner, check it out. Look for loose bolts, bent pulley, maybe the rubber is rotting out. Anybody who can answer how to fix the wobble problem, will need to know what it is thats causing it..... Quote
Guest oldcarguy Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 Drop in oil preassure can indicate worn main bearings. Wobbly crank would add to that suspicion. Quote
chucky07 Posted November 3, 2007 Author Report Posted November 3, 2007 well thats what i thought..so i pulled engine and dropped off at machine shop wed...waiting to hear from them...they're the only game in town so i think i might be in for a surprise on estimate day..... Quote
