BobT-47P15 Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 In looking at the 56 Dodge the other day, I noticed that the wheels on it were almost like reversed rims. I suppose these to be the originals since they appeared to be all alike. Are 15 inch. They have the nubs in the middle for a small cap, like baby moons, perhaps. And they look deep enough you could use various styles of full wheel covers. A lot of full covers will not work on the 40s and 50s mopar wheels with the clips and higher centers. And these wheels have an extra hole that would probably work with the guide pin. Might be similar wheels on some other 55 or 56 Chryco products. They went to 14" wheels in 57. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Bob, I have not had a problem with full wheel hubcaps fitting the original 40's wheels. Originally when I had 16" wheels I put full moon hubcaps on it and they fit fine. I also put my current spinner hubcaps on the 15" 40's wheel and I have another set of 53 Plymouth full wheel hubcaps that also fit. What kind did you try that did not fit? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Lots of them, Norm. The ones you mention are all higher in the centers. Things like the mid 50s Lancer flippers and others won't work. And anything that is dished down just a little in the middle. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Hmmmm. That's interesting. I had thought about trying to find some nice Lancer caps. They would fit the front on mine because I have Vintique wheels there. Think I'll snatch one of my brother in laws flat type Olds hubcaps off his wall and give it a try on one of my rear wheels just for kicks. They won't fit the rears on his 38 Ford because the hub sticks out too far, but they will fit his fronts. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 The wheel looks very similar to B-&C-body wheels from the 1970's. Quote
