Hi everyone. A rookie question here. I've searched the forum but can't find any related question so I hope I'm asking in the right place.

I'm trying to adjust the hood/ bonnet on my Aussie 56 DeSoto Diplomat I'm not sure if its the same hinges etc as the Plymouth Belvedere.

As you look at the front of the car the bonnet sits quite a bit to the right and is quite low sitting below the fender line.

Theres hardly any gap between the bonnet and the right fender (looking at the front) but quite a large gap on the other side.

I can't figure out how to adjust the hinges. Can anyone help please?

Havn't seen the style of hinge used on the hood but I would think that there should be some adjustment in the bolts that hold the hood to the hinge and also the hinge to the cowl....also is it missing the hood bumpers on the right, ie, the Oz passenger side or is there some holes indicating that there should be some bumpers but maybe they are missing........BTW......these guys may think that your car has some fancy headgear with the "bonnet" term...........lol........just had a look at Roger the Dodgers DeSoto pics and the engine bay pic does show part of the passenger side hinge and it appears to be the sort that should have some adjustment there...........also is the stricker plate centred as that maybe pulling the hood to one side...........dunno if this helps.....regards, andyd

Cheers Andy. Yeah I think the bumpers are still there although they may be a bit past their best.

I'll have a look agin next weekend and see what happens when I start adjusting the bolts. It seems that some holes are slotted so I imagine that will be for adjustment.

Thanks for replying :)

Phil......just remembered also that the Oz 1955 Mopars onwards up to the 1962 Royals are based on the 53/54 Plymouth so it maybe worth posting a thread asking for info on adjusting the hood on a 53 or 54 Plymouth............maybe.................andyd
