I am going to be making a trip from the North East to the Midwest in a few weeks (Illinois to be exact) And it looks like my trailer will be empty going out (I can get 2 trucks on it) If anyone needs something moved that way or back to the east coast, Let me know. Some help with the cost of fuel is all I would ask. Dutch

hi Dutch.

if my adventure from lansing, where i'll be attempting to drive a '48 1.5 ton back to NH sort of falls short, i might need a little assistance.

my first goal is to get the truck from lansing down to manchester michigan, just a little south of Jackson, to my in-law's place. from there, i'll be able to assess the foolhardiness of continuing to drive the thing to NH, or whether i should ship it back east, at least closer to NH.

i know this is a larger truck, rather than a pickup. i believe it's 152", and it has a wooden floor stake-body dump. that might be too much weight and length, but i figured it wouldn't hurt to find out. i'd be happy to pay for the fuel and toll charges, no problem there.

Hey Wally........I live just south of Lansing in Jackson and I use to live in Manchester for about 6 years. If you need a hand give me a shout. And if Dutch can't help you out I had a guy from the Indiana area truck my B1D from Conneticut to Jackson for $700 and that was through a company. If you contact him directly maybe he'd do it cheaper. I still have his number if your interested.

Harvey, I have family near Effingham and try and get to Staunton when I am back there. And Wally, your truck would fit on my trailer but I will have to see what I come up with while I am there. I am pretty sure I will be empty going out though. Dutch

hi Kevin,

i appreciate the offer, and i might take you up on it, especially the trucking if things won't work for Dutch. i hope ultimately that i'll be able to drive it back, using the slow route, and won't have to have it shipped at all.

ok Dutch,

sounds good. if my trip doesn't work next weekend, i'll let you know. at that point, the truck should be in a location (in-law's) where it can stay for a while, and if you find that you could fit it on your trailer for the return trip, that would work. if not, i could then try the guy that Kevin used for his truck.

thanks to both of you for the offers,

Yeah I was going to go out to Conneticut to trailer mine back and got to figuring that the price of gas and my time (guessing two days) wasn't worth it. So I checked into shipping it. Some shippers want to put them in enclosed trailers because if their age which makes the shipping cost outrageous. I think it was $1,500. I ended up paying $700 and having it put on on open hauler. It made the trip just fine. Let me know if you need a hand getting it to Manchester.

So here are a couple of the reasons I am making this trip. Again I found a 1950 Dodge B2B (Military Theme) in Indiana, (that I just don't need) so I have listed it in the Trucks For Sale Section of this forum. Please have a look. Also I am going to what looks to be the best Auction (NO Reserves) I have come across in a coons age. Have a look at the listings, let me know if anyone might go and I will buy the first round.

well, back from michigan, albeit without the truck. the brakes just wouldn't stay "up". the problem was more than just a leaky front wheel cylinder, but i couldn't take any chance on driving it without being able to stop.

on a positive note, the truck is in excellent condition - solid frame, good dump bed/sides, good sheet metal (minimal rust), starts up nicely, idles fine.

just have to figure out a way to get it back to NH from lansing.

soooooo, dutch, how's that trip back from illinois/indiana looking? :)
