After that, my schedule is open and I will be in Washington for a week. Is there anyone on the board near southwest Washington or Portland? Todd/Indy.

Todd,

I don't live there anymore but went to school in Portland and climbed St. Helens in the early '70s with Al Kenning, (then) President of the Ptarmigans climbing club. We didn't top-out because of a sudden storm but we got higher than you will. Lol, try hooking up with that club as they were a very open and helpful group of folks.

Thanks Randy, You are right. I won't be able to climb that high since the top of the mountain was blown off in 1980...hahaha. This climb I am doing is organized by the Mount St. Helens Institute and they have been very helpful so far on advising me what to bring. I'm a bit nervous still but I wont know till I try. I have written the name of that club down and will contact them if I need to. Thanks for the heads up.

I would go as high as the last rest bench with a water fountain.

Good luck to you.

I'll jump out of a perfectly good airplane but I won't climb mountains unless Loni Anderson's on the top...so to speak:eek: :D;)

Todd,

Used to be the top of the hill was basically scree. Maybe that's why it blew as far as it did, lol, but I will be climbing vicariously with you. Enjoy!

BTW, it used to be called "The Fujiyama Of The West" because of the symmetry of both mountains, and Portland's sister city is in Japan; Osaka, I think.
