scotty t Posted May 7, 2017 Report Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) I've thinking about painting my p15 "chevron blue #2" but through research here and elsewhere i see that it's next to impossible to find the exact paint code. Can anyone point me to a very near matching color or a modern version of the correct code? Also i want to upholster my seats in a very similar pattern as the original. did the split back two door seat have two wide pleats or five on each back rest? I've found pictures that show both. Pics would nice. Thanks, Scotty T Edited May 7, 2017 by scotty t additional info Quote
DrDoctor Posted May 7, 2017 Report Posted May 7, 2017 For the paint-match issue—take a sample of the color you want, or the number of the color, to an automotive paint store. They might be able to cross-match numbers of the original color with a contemporary one. If they can’t, they can put the sample, or the color from the color-chip-sheet, into a spectrometer, and it’ll create a formula that will be at least a near-match. You have to take into consideration aging of the original paint, effects of UV, etc. Unless you’re a super-purest (which I’m not . . .), this’ll yield you a color you may really like. On a personal note—on older cars, I’m not a fan of the basecoat/clearcoat system—I think it makes the car too shiny, like it’s been dipped in plastic. These cars originally had an intense luster, and not a glassy shine. So, I’d try to steer you towards a single-stage paint, and don’t go overboard with the polishing, but instead try to emulate the original process to achieve an original appearance. That’s just my opinion, but the final choice is obviously yours, as it’s your car. For the interior issue—is your car a DeLuxe, or a Special DeLuxe? I’m just guessing here, as that might be why there’s a difference. As for material, Mac’s Auto (which deals with old Ford restoration parts), as a great interior department called Cartouche (spelling???). They may have a material that’s a close match for you. An upholstery shop in your area may be even a better option. I don’t know of a company that has exact-matching material, but other members here may know of a company. Good luck with your project . . . Regards. Quote
scotty t Posted May 8, 2017 Author Report Posted May 8, 2017 my car is a special deluxe. this car is not exactly stock so I'm not concerned with total accuracy. I'm not using the stock seat or material, i would like to emulate the stock upholstery pattern tho. as far as the paint goes, i was hoping someone knows the code for a very similar color. apparently the old paint codes won't "translate " to modern toners. i have a paint chip coming but i don't thinks it's large enough to scan. rb1949 Posted May 8, 2017 Report Posted May 8, 2017 Your Blue on a chart from TCP Global Paint. You can find it by searching from their home page: http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/ I was very satisfied with the original color match from TCP for my '49 Chrysler. Quote
