Guest pizzafrank Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 Just talked to a friend of mine, and we plan on meeting at Hot August nights in Reno the first week of August. Anyone on the forum planning on being in Reno then ? If so send me a e-mail and maybe we can meet also . I'll be driving my 48 Pymouth . Quote
Reg Evans Posted July 25, 2007 Report Posted July 25, 2007 I might drive my 38 Dodge coupe. I'll let ya know if we decide to go. We also have a Delta Cruise vacation scheduled starting on 8/12 so I don't know about having that much fun all at once. Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Hola Gang We drove an 1963 CoachWorks Le Baron ( ... http://www.imperialclub.org/Yr/1963/index.htm ) to Reno one year from here in Colo Spgs with 1963 Colorado plates on it. We ran out of gas in No-Where, Eastern Nev, the thermostat gave up during Utah and a rear wheel cover came off in some construction zone about 80 miles from ____. The thermostat was changed outside the motel room one hot morning, the wheel cover was replaced at the swap meet and she is not yet over running out of gas. She keeps reminding me that she gave up her H.S. Re-Union ( Rock Hill, NY ) for this trip. The next time will be in the 47 S-11 ( with the 47 Colorado Plates on it ) with the swamp cool ah hangin on the passenger door. Rodger & Gabby COS Quote
james curl Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 A friend and I are planning on leaving central Texas on Thursday of this week to go to Reno and then on to speed week at Bonneville before returning to central Texas. We will be driving my daily driver 48 Plymouth 4 door with modified flat head six and 3 speed transmission. I just finished installing a 90 Dakota 3.55:1 rearend so that we can cruise 65-70 without exceeding 3200 RPM. Hoping to get at least 14 mpg or more on trip. Will be just a little over 1800 miles out to Reno. Friend has a time share in Taho during Hot August Nights so we have a place to stay while in Reno. We have been told that lately the older rodders and custom guys leave before the last weekend because the younger set and their front drive cars arrive the later part of the week and change the look of Hot August Nights. Just as well as Bonneville starts on Saturday the 11th which is the next to last day of Hot August Nights. Hope to see Pete"Blueskies"Anderson at Bonneville if we are both there at the same time. I have a beige 48 plymouth 4 door with Texas plates which I presume will be the only one at either place like it from Texas. Quote
Rodger S-11 Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 Hola James How does some other types of vehicles with front wheel drive change an event that has 5,000 participents with vehicles that can not be newer than 1972 ( ... http://www.hotaugustnights.net/ ) ??? Rodger & Gabby Cos Quote
james curl Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 I do know how it would change the event, I was repeating what I was told that things have changed, but I do not know if that is true. I have not been in 10 years and was not overwhelmed when I went then, one day of looking at the cars lining the street and one night of watching people cruse and the swap meet was all I needed. I do not go for the Elvis imitators or the other club acts in the gambling houses. Also I do not gamble therefore I do not need to be in the casinos. Quote
PatS.... Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Hola JamesHow does some other types of vehicles with front wheel drive change an event that has 5,000 participants with vehicles that can not be newer than 1972 ( ... http://www.hotaugustnights.net/ ) ??? Rodger & Gabby Cos The Japanese cars and those newer than 1972 are free to drive the streets and congregate in parking lots around the city as do the pre-72 cars. Whats on the streets is a big part of H.A.N. No requirement to be a registered participant to have a modified car in Reno. I think it certainly changes the flavor of the event but I don't think it detracts from it at all. While I have no interest in Japanese cars, there are lots of folks who do, especially the younger generation, so, it's all good. Quote
