weasel Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 (edited) I need to pull the three speed out of my 49 B1, my question is can it be done without pulling the top cap from the tranny? I don't have a lift so I will be using jack stands? Thanks for any guidance Edited December 10, 2016 by weasel Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted December 23, 2016 Report Posted December 23, 2016 Weasel , It has been a long time and you haven't received an answer so I will enter my 2 cents . On the three speeds for the years 1939 - 1947 the answer is YES . I just remove the largest section of the floorboard and slip it out onto the floor below for my truck . Quote
MBF Posted December 26, 2016 Report Posted December 26, 2016 Yup-I agree with what Jerry said is correct. I pulled the 5 spd out of my 2.5 tonner to replace the clutch by just removing the floor cover so I'm assuming it'd be the same for a 3 spd which is a much smaller transmission but with the same sized removable panel. weasel Posted December 26, 2016 Author Report Posted December 26, 2016 Thanks for the reply, I have it in the air now and will remove the floor plan. David Quote
Jerry Roberts Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 I am a skinny guy so when I did mine I didn't even use jack stands . I just put a slippery tarp on the floor so I can slide along . Quote
jmooner3 Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 Weasel - did you get it done? If not, don't sweat it. I have a 49 B1. The three speed is not that heavy. pull off the one floor pan over the shifter, disconnect the drive shaft at the differential and pull it out of the trans yoke. Youll need to disconnect the speedo cable from the trans too. Four bolts and the trans should slide back and out, you can get the bolts from in the cab and lower mine to the floor by the shifter lever. Then just pulled it out from under the truck, pretty simple process. Good luck Quote
