JPP Posted February 14, 2016 Report Posted February 14, 2016 I have removed the transmission cleaned it all up, painted it, looks great. Now I need the paper gaskets that go between the transmission and the bell housing, the transmission and the shift tower, and the transmission and the emergency brake bracket. Does anyone know where i can get these? What weight oil goes in tranny, 600 like my 29 ford? I also need to replace brake lining on emergency brake, any source for these? I did find a $9.00 speedometer cable at napa that fits perfect, 63 inches long. thanks Quote
MBF Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 I would think it would be easier to make your own gaskets. I got tired of trying to find a differential to rear axle housing gasket so I made my own taking some careful measurements and used a ball peen hammer and some very light single wall chipboard. It was the same thickness as a piece of the old gasket that I had. Took about an hour of measuring and tracing, When it was done it was an exact fit, and put an end to the phone calls and email searches I had been conducting. I also traced around the finished gasket and made a pattern in case I need to make another one down the road. If you've got flat surfaces to work with should be easy ones to make. Mike 1 Quote
JPP Posted February 15, 2016 Author Report Posted February 15, 2016 Andy bernbaum had them for 3 speed for $17.00. http://www.oldmoparts.com/parts-transmission.aspx Quote
Frank's 49 Posted February 15, 2016 Report Posted February 15, 2016 I also need a cable. Do you know if this will fit a B1B 3 speed. Pretty sure they are the same transmission. I looked on NAPA site and found part No.BK 6151604. Is that the one you used. The web site does not specify length, or any thing else. And it says it will not fit a 1949 B1B. Can you check the part number on the one you bought. For 10 bucks I might just take a chance. Quote

Frank's 49 Posted February 16, 2016 Report Posted February 16, 2016 Thanks. I guessed that was the part no. as it was the only one for around $10. Their search engine claims it does not fit. I tried B1B and B2B, but neither one 'scored'. I am going to just order one and if I lose $10 bucks, I can always save the cable and use it on something else someday. Might make a decent "snake", for cleaning the kitchen sink. I just hooked up an old GPS so I could use the display for a speedometer. Thanks again for the reply. Mike Quote
Frank's 49 Posted February 16, 2016 Report Posted February 16, 2016 Just fyi. I found it on NAPA, but the shipping charge was $7.95!. Nearly the price of the cable. Called a local NAPA store (25 miles is 'local'.), and they said it will be there in the morning. $9.99 + tax. Going that way to buy supplies to make some wine, so I will pick it up at the store.
