Addy Lewis Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 I purchased this HEI setup and fabricated a custom mount from the stock mount, only to relise I could have purchased one that fit originally. I then thought that maybe I am not sure if I needed this to begin with. Can anyone tell me if they think the HEI on this application would help, or just cause an undue headache? Any experience or input would be much appreciated. 218 .40 over Dual 2x2 electric carbs offy intake rebuilt 12V generator everything else stock Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 Is the HEI coil 6 or 12 volts? Quote
cavisco1 Posted September 30, 2015 Report Posted September 30, 2015 Addy, I think you will find the HEI is an excellent upgrade, especially if you use that E-core coil. If you are interested in ignition upgrades, there is an interesting article on this site ( http://www.worldphaco.net/ ) comparing points/Kettering system, HEI and Capacitive discharge systems. Click on the pink link Capacitive Discharge Ignition (CDI) vs Magnetic Discharge Ignition (MDI). An in depth analysis of the different systems with measurements. Scott. Quote
Addy Lewis Posted September 30, 2015 Author Report Posted September 30, 2015 This ignition system requires a 12v negative ground. My starter is still 6v and my generator is 12v. I will completely rewrite the truck to a 12v system, as most of the wiring is in bad condition. Quote
