Darbone85737 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I took the leaking rear window out of my car to replace. I had asked about the differences in pricing and quality from the various vendors and really came to no conclusion. I decided to try the lower priced option and ordered from Andy Bernbaum.. It came yesterday and I've now managed to fit it to the glass. The gasket is not preformed to the size and shape of the glass- It is a length of gasket probably 3 feet longer than actually needed. The length made it a bit awkward to work with in fitting to the glass. Like wrestling with a snake, but once the glass is started in the groove it was fairly easy to work around the perimeter. It's also necessary to cut the excess off in a way that there will me no gap where the ends meet. A single edged razor did the job. The quality of the rubber seems good. I'm going to get assistance in reinstalling the glass this afternoon so I'll know better how it fits to the car but it looks pretty good. I plan to lay the assembly out in the hot sun to soften the rubber before trying to fit it to the car *** continued** Using the "string" method and wife's assistance we got the window installed in around 20 minutes (no yelling) The fit was good with the exception of some slight spreading of the glass channel at the radius bends in the lower corners on the inside. I think a little sealant or adhesive will resolve this issue. This is probably the only detriment to using the straight gasket rather than a part that is molded in the shape of the glass. It may also be the result of my inexperienced installation. At any rate, all in all I'm happy with the part and found it was easier to do than I had worked myself up to believe Edited April 4, 2015 by Darbone85737 Quote
deathbound Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Looks seamless in the picture. What did you use to seal the "joint"? Quote
Darbone85737 Posted April 4, 2015 Author Report Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I managed to get the cut pretty close to the other end. The joint is at the top around 4 inches to the left of the Windex bottle. Not sealed yet. Probably use weatherstrip sealant. Edited April 4, 2015 by Darbone85737 Quote
