steveplym Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 My choke cable broke on my p-15 the other day. Anyone have an extra they would like to get rid of? All I really need is the knob and the cable. Or does anyone know how to convert an aftermarket cable to fit with the original knob. I know the cable is molded to the rod and knob. Any help would be much appreciated. Quote
RHDSP15C Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 You can fix it real easy - first remove the broken wire, replace the wire and silver solder in place. Immerse the ivory knob in water while soldering to avoid melting the plastic. The wire is the inner cable from C8 conduit which is commonly used on lawnmower throttle cables. It is also possible to replace the outer part of the cable with care. We use this in our shop and buy the C8 in 50 foot coils. Quote

DonaldSmith Posted June 13, 2007 Report Posted June 13, 2007 I have an extra choke cable from when I fixed the automatic choke on my DeSoto. Ithe cable is in the garage somewhere. Lemme know if you need it. Quote

Removed the old cable and purchased a new choke cable from the auto parts store. Pulled the old cable out of the choke knob and rod. Soldered the new cable into the end of the rod and put it back into the cable protector and sleeve. Works great and looks like original. Great idea, thanks for the help! Quote
