Hello All --

The M.C. on my '50 Dodge was rebuilt about 3 1/2 years ago.

Apparently, since that time I have over-tightened the filler cap on my M.C to the point the gasket is now shredded.

I'm thinking about using an O ring to replace the original gasket.

Does the collective wisdom here, think this is a wise move?

Any suggestions or caveats on doing that. My main concern is having the brake fluid melt or dissolve the O ring.

FWIW, I'm using DOT type 3 brake fluid.

Thanks for your ideas.

Hardware stores should have a pretty good selection of gaskets that should result in finding one that fits.

Should be available in fiber type, or metal.

I think I tried that once and the brake fluid may the o-ring swell up to where it was useless. Probably due to the make-up of the o-ring. I have copper and aluminum gaskets here. I won't try rubber again.

Thank you Shel_NY, Niel and 1941Rick --

I'll be in town tomorrow and visit Ace Hdw. They should have what ya'll suggested.

I'll follow-up after the "treasure hunt."

Regards,

Frank
