Grdpa's 50 Dodge Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I have had these similiar(not this car) out 40 years ago but must not be this model. I forgets some too. THIS window garnish comes about 6" down on the door panels clear past the door handles. I took all the screws out, took pins out of window and door handle. Its still tight along the bottom of the window. I popped off the cardboard door cover as thats what I wanted off,,but have to take garnish off too since have to change cracked glass. I ask because I am good at wrecking stuff. just wondering if there are hidden clips on top along bottom of window metal. I already checked parts book and fix it manuel but it didnt address anything,,,just says remove and replace On a elated note good news is I took off cracked and peeling cheap vinyl cover somebody put over door panel when it was brand new,,,and it still looks brand new,,,exceptbuttons they put thru to hold vinyl to panel. PLUS bottom inch or two plus bottom corners are rotten as normal, clips are rusted off. Bottom is curled some. Any source for new panels??? Is my garnish panel just rusted/corroded on or is there fasteners on top of the bottom piece??? Quote
_shel_ny Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Look on the top of the door near the front for a screw. 51/52 had one up there toward the front. May still take a good tap with a block of wood being coaxed by a small hammered to get it to go up and let go. That was my experience on the 51 I ravaged this fall. Grdpa's 50 Dodge Posted January 8, 2014 Author Report Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) thanks shell Just went out to wiggle it again since the door panel is off and seems really tight right below the vent window. Do I have to remove the vent window or open it ??? Will go out right now and relook for another screw. Will even take a wet rag out and wipe down the dust to double check. Baby its cold out there. temps got down to minus 11 outside with a big wind chill to 25-30 below yesterday but we are in a heat wave right now 15* and no wind. Last wiggle it let go across the window opening,,now the vent window area???? Edited January 8, 2014 by Grdpa's 50 Dodge Quote
_shel_ny Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) I opened the vent window on the ones I removed. Screw was on top of the door frame, not up through the garnish. Edited January 8, 2014 by shel_ny Quote
Grdpa's 50 Dodge Posted January 8, 2014 Author Report Posted January 8, 2014 Okay,,got the window garnish off. Was wiggling around and only real hold was right where the bar comes down in back of vent window. Used my handy dandy plastic wonder bar and picked up on it from the outside thru the window. Seems pulling back on whole thing would do the right trick as it hooks on a closer piece right there, pulling back would release that. NOW on to the bottom and corners of the cardboard door panel. Has anyone successfully spliced on/patched if you will,,,bottom few inches below that trim belt line??(fabric on top of that but a leather looking vinyl below)??? and those bottom door panel clips,,source?
