I've found some material that I really like. The problem is there's only 5 yards of 54" wide material left and it's discontinued. Anyone know how many yards it takes to do a seat for a 47 Dodge 3 window? Mine doesn't arrive until the 30th. And I can't seem to find a good photo of a seat to guesstimate it. Might just buy it as it's marked down to $7.99 per.

If I were you I would buy the whole 5 yards.  The price is right and you never know what you might screw up by accident.  Although I don't exactly know what a dodge seat looks like I did do the seats in my P15 4 door sedan.   Unfortunately like you the material was in short supply and I did the rear of the bench seat in a different material then the seat material but it came out looking real nice.

PS... If you are not going to do it right away keep the material rolled rather then folded.

Chet how much material did your front seat take?

5 Yards of 54" material is quite a lot.  That's 54" x 15 feet.  If you are cutting and sewing this should be more then enough for a front seat.  Here again I have no idea what it looks like.  And how it has to be placed in order to get the desired look of the material's pattern.

Maybe take a ruler and do some measurements.  When I did my seats the width of the seats were less then the 54"width.  but I sewed on side pieces it wasn't just rapped around.  I think I had 5 or 6 yards for the whole car front and back but here again it was mixed with some vinyl trim .   BTW on the Plymouth P15-SPD the doors also use the seat material and vinyl.  If you are into all that 10 to 12 yards should be more then enough including the front seat back.  You would be surprised how much material you can salvage from the remnants if you plan out your cuts.  Keep in mind that a missed cut could be a problem with a limited supply of material.  Lay out the job first.  You could use brown paper to get a rough idea.

Sorry I wish I could be more helpful.  Its been a while since I did the seats so in one of those weekend reports I might have mentioned how much material I originally purchased.

Good Luck,  Chet...

Well, just guesstimating.......if the seat is approx 5 feet wide.......then 5 feet length of material for the bottom......another

5 feet length for the backs.........that's 10 feet.   So, 5 yards (15) feet would sound like enough in the length department.

54 inches wide is 4 feet, 6 inches wide.    So it would seem like the width would be enough to wrap around the cushion.

The ends of the seat frame are covered in leather or vinyl.

So, I think I would buy the material you like at that reduced price.  If it doesn't end up being enough, you could

probably sell it to someone else.

Just my thoughts.

Casper.....do you have any auto upholstery shops near you?

If so, you might ask what wholesale supply they get their material from.

Sometimes those suppliers have older material still on the shelf and will sell to an

individual. Or, sometimes a local shop will still have some old stuff that never got

used.
