Late last summer, I installed an original radio in my car. This summer I installed the antenna. I didn't want to drill holes in the body, so I mounted it on a rear bracket. I used a short 14" rubber antenna so it wouldn't jump out at you. When I hooked it up, I could only get a few stations. Mostly talk radio/news stations. The one oldies station I couldn't get. If I grabbed the base of the antenna, stations came in louder and the ones I couldn't get, came in. Thought it might be a bad ground, so I tried a few things. Didn't help, so I decided to try a different antenna. Picked one up, but before I switched it, I crawled under the dash for another look at the radio. I found a tag marked ANTENNA with 2 arrows pointing right and left, with what looked like a hole plug under the tag. One side was ROADWAY and the other side was SKYWAY. I popped the plug and switched from ROADWAY to AIRWAY, and sound increased a lot. Plus the other stations came in also. I have removed the rubber mast and replaced it with a taller metal mast. I believe the original '37 coupe/sedan antenna was under the headliner in the roof. I heard that the converts was under the running board.
