personally I do not like ripe fruit..I like  it with just a tad of tart taste...I also do not buy Washington state apples as to me they are tasteless mushy pulp..I eat few apples as I tend to wait till the eastern tree produce..last plums and nectarines I bought was about the same tasteless blob of pulp..12-16 days in not a standard in my book..my non buying rends are quite a bit lengthier....only fruit lately I think is a taste value are cherries..

 

You must be referring to red and golden delicious apples which I agree are tasteless mushy pulp and which I also won't eat.  But there are dozens of other varieties grown in Washington (and Oregon), some of which are crisp and flavorful, and others which are flavorful but not so crisp.
