58prostreet Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 I have a '52 Wayfarer. The hood hinge on passenger side was very sloppy which resulted in difficulty in aligning hood and also proper closure, I sent both hinges to a company in Forest, Va. for rebulid. They disassemble, clean, media blast, replace all rivets, and reassemble with sea foam lube. I am very happy with results. Hood can now be properly alingend and closes like it should. Cost was $175.00 plus shipping. Company is; Wilson Antique Car Parts 1067 Clearview Drive Forest< va. 24551 Email willie@hoodhingerepair.com Phone 434 258 2606 web www.hoodhingerepair.com May sound a little expensive, but they custom make rivets to fit any hinge, and work is guaranted. Also rebuild door hinges. They also offer powder coating. Bob Quote
randroid Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Bob, A few years ago I had a rivet break on the hinge for my P15 and it was quite the little adventure on my part replacing it. I eventually found a T nut strong enough to hold the weight and with grinding and filing and using the sort of language that falls heavily on my Lady Wife's tender ears I eventually was able to reassemble the cursed contraption, once I found which way all the fidgitty parts went. Sounds like you took the path a wiser man would walk and probably came out with a higher quality product in the end, but I don't imagine you were able to offend nearly as many neighbors with the shouting you didn't need to do. Maybe the address of your repair shop could be put in the reference section here so that if the other hinge ever breaks I would be able to forego the excitement of my former experience and do the job the way a prudent man would have it done. -Randy Quote
58prostreet Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 Randy I have experienced the same emotions and outbursts that you did on other projects. I enjoy a challange, but needs to be one that I am likely to win. Trying to source the rivets, removing old ones, and properly installing new ones would have been a whole lot worse than giving up $175.00. in my opinion. I will try to post vendor info in reference section. Thanks Bob Quote
mrwrstory Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) It strikes me that many of our group enjoy the challenge of the colorful recounting of the trials and tribulations of working on these cars. Another element of what makes this site entertaining, so much fun and the comfort of knowing you're not alone! Edited March 16, 2013 by mrwrstory Quote
