johnfred Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 The door will stay latched if one uses the "pull 'er up" lock on the inside handle. Otherwise it is like some of my 60+ yr old parts - ornery. Probably a spring, but before I take it apart - the window mechanism has to come out first - and make it undriveable for however long - - Help! What does anyone know? A diagram or photo would be great so I can take it apart, look, laugh then cry. Thanks John Quote
Scruffy49 Posted January 8, 2013 Report Posted January 8, 2013 Go to the Dennis Carpenter website (old Ford stuff). Look up the schematic for a 48-52 F1 door, Pilot Houses used a system that is almost exactly the same. In fact, the little slider in the door and the wedge it catches on ARE a perfect match, so are some handles and trim plates. The linkages in the door are very similar, I've worked with both era 1/2 tons. That will give you a very basic idea of what the door guts look like. My driver door has never latched from the outside, is almost impossible to latch from the inside. I think mine just needs to be adjusted though, it sags. Quote
