BeBop138 Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Newport Engineering doesn`t have a listing for my 52 Windsor--any of the MoPar cousins have the same motor as LuLu ---then I could re-check there product line--I have reduced the voltage with a power resister and could stay with that if needed----but am into a re-wire and other upgrades--now is the time to change while I have so much room to work.....thanks.....Lee Quote
thrashingcows Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 Personally I am going to use a power window motor to run my windshield wipers. Sure it won't have a "park" feature...but really how often am I actually going to use them? I know this will require a little engineering to make it work...but there are many different PW motors available at the wreckers, so figure I can find something that will work. Quote
james curl Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Why not look at rear window wipers on SUV's and hatchback sedans like VW rabbits? Quote
blucarsdn Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 I installed a two speed electric wiper motor in my '39 Plym conv cpe... The wipers on the convertibles were mounted on the cowl in lieu of the overhead like the closed cars.. I used a Bosh motor from a Dodge hatchback van.. The motor needs a little modification, shorting the shaft and adapting the the original '39 cross arm to the Bosh motor... The wipers are self parting and work very well.. My brother used the same type of Bosh motor to put electric wipers on his '54 Chevy BelAire... A few hours work, $25. for the motor at a wrecking yard, in lieu of the $300. + cost for an after market unit... Bill Quote
Andydodge Posted December 19, 2012 Report Posted December 19, 2012 I have had a set of pommie/English BMC style wipers in my Dodge for about 25 yrs........all BMC and other UK cars that I know off including the Rootes Group ones use a cable operated wiper system that in theory would even allow you to mount the wiper motor in the trunk if you wish..........the cable has a pair of gear drives that clamp over the tube and that you can use as they are to have a "wave your hands" style or turn upside down if your wipers have to be " clap your hands" style, ie like what I have on the Dodge, see attached pic. All I had to do was work out where the motor had to mount which was between the side of the cowl and the glove box, I made up a bracket and ran the cable tube up between the cowl vent and dash mounting. As far as I know the Newport Engineering setup is basically the same style........my setup cost about $5.00 and a bit of fiddling.......andyd Quote
thrashingcows Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 I finally got my original 6V wiper motor out of the Desoto recently...found that it's a dual arm set-up on one motor. Never seen this kind of a set-up before Not sure how I am going to convert it now. I read somewhere that maybe a 12V wiper motor from a 56-64 mopar would be the same and you can just swap the guts?
